(METHOD) Ranking Pins on Pinterest

William, since you promote ecom products yourself on Pinterest:

1) Can you give some advice on what type of images work best in terms of CTR/sales?

2) Is it enough to pin just plain product image with no text/labels on the image or is it better to add a logo/free shipping/price on top of the image before pinning it?

1) I dont bother judging images. I just set up the pins for whatever image the listing has, Volume over perfection.

2) I dont just pin a plain post. I add in text, price and hashtags.

I meant text on the images. But you answered both my questions with your first sentece. Thank you:)

Hi William, I have some more questions. My apologies if you already answered them before:

1. What is the best way to structure the boards on your account? For example, if I sell clothing and among the rest of the products I sell all sorts of T-shirts, should I create a lot of boards based on attributes (e.g. black t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, sports t-shirts, etc.) or it's better to create more generic boards like T-shirts, trousers, shirt, etc. and then add subcategories within those boards based on the attributes?

2. Does it matter if you upload a pin to different boards vs. you upload a pin to one board and then repin to the rest? If it does, then what is better?

3. When you publish a pin to the same product multiple times - is it a good practice to change the description and tags to match the board where you publish? For example, if I have a "white t-shirts" board I put this tag and description. Then I have "short sleeve t-shirts" - should I change the description and tags to "short sleeve t-shirt" ? Of course here you can combine both tags in one description, but this is just an example.

4. Is it ok to have a broad niche account or is it better to narrow down? For example, if I'm in womens fashion, is it ok to have boards on clothing, accessories, makeup, skincare, etc.?

1 The best advice I can give is go look at what the successful shops in your niche are doing. for example you can go to etsy and search for the top sellers using craftcount and then check out their social media and see what is working for them.

2 Repinning is better but that said you can do both.

3 You can do but i have opted for things that are less time consuming that i can do in number. my method here is by no means the best method, in fact there are far better ways to rank pins but they take more effort and time.

4 Boards that broad will very rarely gain any traction, you need to go into sub niches and sub niches of sub niches lol. again though there is nothing stopping you making both kinds of boards. it all depends on how much effort you want to put in.

Thanks a lot William. The picture got a lot more clear now.

I'd like to clarify the last question about the niche.

You said that the board has to be very narrow to get better ranking. But my question was about the niche of the account as a whole, not just boards.

For example:

Account A - Health niche with a lot of boards within the account split into sub-sub categories (skin care, detox, weightloss, etc. and maybe even more narrow categories)
Account B - Detox only with a few boards split into sub-categories related to detox only

So what is better - to go with account A and have all the boards somewhat related to health niche in one account or to go with account B and have multiple very niched down accounts with fewer yet a lot more focused boards?

Personally I would go for A as you will have more traffic and likely better rankings on all content on that account. you can still make laser targeted boards with relevant pins. However there are benefits to being a destination for all things related to one subject. It all boils down to how much effort you want to put in, how long you intend on being active in said niche.

Ok, got it. That's what I was thinking myself.

Just 2 last questions:

1. Is there an easy way to repin from one of your boards to another? It doesn't seem there is an option to do that.

2. Is there a limit to how many of your boards you can pin:
- exactly the same pin
- different images with the same URL (same blog post or product page) in order not to get banned?

I'm sure there are all sorts of bots and scripts out there that can help with the repinning thing. I have no idea on the limits but I would not want to push it to find out either. It depends how you are pinning, all in one go the same thing will cause problems. The best way to figure these things out is to test and in doing so you will probably find a bunch of solutions to your specific needs.

Ok, thanks for your help William. I already started working on my Pinterest accounts. Will see how it goes.

I thought Pinterest bans your account if you repin too many times in 3 months

I know it sounds simple and it's probably a bit more complex behind the scenes but yeah all I really did was blast the pins out every day for a few months and now the search is full of them. I dont just mean one spot on the front page either I mean most of them. Some are pretty similar so had similar keywords and hashtags so a few show up on the top instead of just one. I think the group boards had a lot to do with it and the fact I had several accounts pinning daily. The group boards are referenced in tons of places on lists and blogs online and with the recent surge in interest with group boards I think the fact that the pins are all over said boards can only help and is the reason they rank so well.

Hey. This is very valuable information! Could you tell me the places where I can find many group boards?

Hello peeps,

Over the last 6 months I have had quite a few new clients for Pinterest services and one of whom referred 3 other clients so business has been good over the last few months. It has allowed me to pin very large numbers of pins over a consistent period and I have learned a few things that I would love to share with you below. I have pinned close to 200,000 pins across this time for a handful of clients.

Just to get the boring stuff out of the way I dont intend to sell nor do I sell any services here on BHW and quite honestly I dont want to anyway as I risk polluting many of my resources with a million other IM'ers and having other methods that I employ pilfered so please DO NOT pm me with questions, if you have a question post it here and I'll answer it if I can. Just trying to save time and save myself from turning people down and the hate it brings. I'm just sharing this info so others can do what they want with it and if they want this service for themselves they can do it themselves instead of having to pay me or others for it. If you do have a question and post it here I will do my best to answer it as soon as I can. Please dont take my reluctance to share something personally as some things are better left off of a public forum. I might forget to capitalize something or use a comma where I should have put a full stop or even say to when I meant too so for that I apologize. English is not my first language, this is meant to be a quick share not a Pulitzer winner. Now that I have that out of the way lets get started.

OK so in a nut shell what I have learned is that its very easy to rank pins on Pinterest. for all of the clients I have been sharing product they sell online.

To create the pins I go to the product page. I use the tailwind extension to create the pin and then fill out the pin description and am careful to include the price and three hashtags. I get the hashtags from the keywords or tags that have been included by the seller on the products or just create three relevant ones using words from the titles and the description.

For each of these tags my clients are ranked at the very top. These tags are no joke, I cant give you the specific ones as you will be able to see exactly who my clients are but these are high end words and phrases with insane amounts of content and their pins are ranked at the top of all of them. I have gone to other locations and used other machines to search. I have searched in incognito mode and even went out of state and checked them the other day and they are all at the top so its not just Pinterest showing me. I even created a new account to search from one of those locations to confirm so it's not just me.

I would not just pin these once or twice. I have been pinning them thousands of times over a handful of accounts. For example with the 10k packages I sell I get anything from 10 - 30 products from them and create the pins. I save them as templates so that I can just add them in at any time I want and then add them to the pinning queue on Tailwind. I pin 90 pins per account per day. To do 10k I use 4 accounts over a month. 30 x 360 = 10,800 the excess is just a small bonus for them. The calculation goes the other way too. If they ordered a 10k package and gave me 30 pins that means I will be pinning them 360 times each using the method above.

I pin them to group boards over and over and now they all rank at the top. one client said they are thinking of moving all of their marketing budget across to our pinterest services and I had to tell him that there would be no point. Other than targeting other keywords he is already at the top of all of them. I said that I really cant see them slipping anytime soon but that if he notices a dip we can do more in the future. He is the one who has referred others to me.

So what I have learned is that you can rank really tough keywords on pinterest in a matter of months just by pinning your own pin over and over. I pin these particular pins across 100 relevant group boards. They are all generic enough that the pins would not be out of place on them and they are all pretty big too so that I dont clog up the boards with the pinning frequency. some of the pins have been pinned over a thousand times so there is no wonder they are ranking.

The beauty of this is people dont have to be on those group boards to see the pins now. They just do a search and the pins are at the very top. None of what I did was complicated. I just used the tailwind app to set up the pins to go out every day. I literally have thousands of pins set up under each account and I'm fully booked until April with my current accounts. I'm always making more to try and keep up but making accounts that are quality, seamless and that dont get banned is a slow process.

I would encourage anyone to get started with this now and in a few months it will really start to pay off. Because of the success I am using the method to promote many of my own products and that of family members. Again there are no ulterior motives in sharing this. I'm not trying to sell anything. just sharing the love with others that can use this info and earn some money from it. this method can be used to sell ecomm products and services. It can be used by someone to promote a recipe or blog post. You name it, if its a pin on Pinterest you can do this to get it to rank at the top.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Does this still work in 2019? Do you have an estimate for what kind of traffic you can expect? I know you said you weren't trying to sell your service, but if you'd consider it now, I'd be very interested! I'm not an IMer :) Thanks so much.

@William702 , I want to get your feedback on the progress so far.

What I did:
I started a Pinterest account in one of the health sub-niches. Created a few boards (7-10) and I started repinning.
Yes, I was not pinning my own pins because I've been working on my website, creating content etc. And I thought it'd be a good idea to do some repins of others to warm up the account, ignite some traction and see how it'd work out.

I was repinning the only popular pins (starting with few hundred saves, but tried to go for 1k+ saves) to the relevant boards of mine. A few repins almost every day.

These are the stats that I've got 25 days since I started:
Impressions: 19k
Engagements: 870
Saves: 26
Link clicks: 240 (out of these I had 2 "big" days of 50 and 40 clicks accordingly)

What I did NOT do:
I haven't used any group boards, tribes, engagement groups.

What I want to ask:
- Would the stats be better if I was uploading my own pins instead? I mean does Pinterest promote freshly uploaded pins better than the repinned ones?
- Would group boards help to get better results? I heard group boards don't work as well as before.
- What are your suggestions to get better results once I start pinning my own pins?

How did ANY traffic reach your money sites if the images you REPINNED were not edited before you repinned them?.

This method is really hard compared to adult :(. So much more involved in getting women to click through vs. horny guys.

How did ANY traffic reach your money sites if the images you REPINNED were not edited before you repinned them?.

I was not sending traffic to my money site. As I mentioned, I was just repinning to get some traction on my Pinterest accounts. That's all. So I won nothing, but get some data.

Based on what you said though, I can assume, that Pinterest gives more impressions to fresh brand new pins. Is that correct?

Also, what can be considered as "edit" of the pin to make Pinterest think it's original? Would be enough to change the exposure? Or crop for few pixels? Or the actual image has to be different?

Hi.

One question here and excuse me if it's are repetitive question. I'm not familiarized with Pinterest.

If I want to promote for example my own content, I must creat 4 pinterest accounts, and with the tail wind extension I must to pin my content to related group boards, but how can pin to group boards without invitation? Can one be expelled from a group for posting same content over and over again every day?

Please excuse me if I'm not understanding this. I'm really interesting in to try this method but I want to be sure about the whole proccess before to try anything.

Thanks in advance for your answer.
