I'm putting together a thread about engagement groups.

Here are the questions - what's your take on them?

1

Are engagement groups still something that is worth joining?

2

How much time do you have to spend on such a group?

3

Does Instagram punish for membership in such a group (can it know that you are a member) and should you therefore not join?

No reply looks like nobody right in his mind is using them - or is there any voice against this conclusion?

For the clueless influencer, wannabe blogger etc. they're perfect.

For a person who bots and resells IG accounts once they reach 10k followers and he/she wants to fool the buyer that the account has a good engagement, they're perfect. (I personally find this unethical but it is what is it).

For a person who wants to network with people who are in the same niche as him (exchange shoutouts etc.), they're perfect.

Regarding the time you spend... idk it depends... it can be from 10 mins till 30 mins or more if you joined over 20 engagement groups and do everything manually.

No IG does not punish, but you can be action limited if you participate in a big like round, where you need to like 600 pics in 30 mins for example.

There're many uses of engagement groups: boost the likes to your photos, boost the comments to your photos, get powerful likes for free from other big accounts etc.

My recommendation to you is to join few groups and see for yourself.

They seem to only be good for social proof (having lots of likes and comments from real Instagram accounts) and artificially boosting engagement rate. I wouldn't recommend them for long term use with an account you plan on keeping. Maybe only use them if you have a post performing well below your expectations but don't want to have to delete the post.

Answer: Anything is scaled enough a giving the right of time (daily) will give you good results (used to be in 5 groups & do that manually lol)

2 - How much time do you have to spend on such a group?

Answer: It depends on how many groups you're involved in, if you intend to do it manually, it take hell lots of time just to prove you'r not some random BOT.

3 - Does Instagram punish for membership in such a group (can it know that you are a member) and should you therefore not join?

Answer: Instagram don't care about that, they have their own algorithm & that's it, if you've been cached, it won't matter than if i's a BOT or REAL LEGITIMATE account.

Engagement groups can give you a real boost, However it depends.
There are 2 types usually.

Low quality groups - (Accounts with fake followers / or low followers and low engagement rate) Those can be used as a social proof. For the usual client who don't know about marketing : He will see this as a real engagement. However: It will not help you to grow your account reach. It will ruin it. Because Instagram (algorithm) already know how to recognize such actions.

High Quality Groups - Accounts with overall of 50-40K Followers with 10-15% Engagement rate. Those accounts will be hard to recognized as bots. Because usually when accounts have such amount of followers with this engagement rate his ''trust score'' in IG algorithm eye is different than account with 1-2% rate. So this type of engagement will be considered as High quality. It pretty simple. IG Algorithm calculate it like this: If John (With 50K Followers) Liked the content of Jimjones. Than probably, John followers would like that content too. this is how you get into the explore page. So all the juice (New followers & likes) will came to your account from the explore page.

The bottom line is that it all depends on your goal. Social proof or account growth?

From what I can tell IG seems to limit the reach of the account if you stop using the groups. I would not recommend it.

Is that possible: to just join for one post or another?

I am looking to fill the time until my real instagram strategy starts working (about 2 months)

I only want to do it for a couple of months.

So low quality groups are with fewer followers. If you don't have 50k followers the choice is between low quality groups or no groups, do I understand your position right?

While the exact rules of each group varies slightly, the overwhelming majority of Telegram groups that I've come across only require you to engage with others' posts when you submit one of your own posts for engagement.
