I have heard that you can do SEO without money, but to have money is better. What do you think?

Obviously. Nothing is free. SEO costs money, you can do most of it for free thought (still costs time) but for some parts you might need to pay someone, people usually pay someone else because they can a) do the job better b) do the job faster/get a load of their back.

There are things you can do for free and things you can pay others to do.

SEO is extremely broad.

If you are new you are really likely to lose a lot of money unless you do all by yourself. New people tends to pay for promised results instead of paying for something they know they actually need. So I'd say having money is not better from start, i'd be actually worst. Having earned money and spend that, that is actually good

Yes 100 %, because time is money, If you work yourself, that cost to you, and if you do your own work and hire VA that will also, So nothing is free in SEO

Time is money they say. You can do alot of stuff for free, but how much is your time worth?

Well, it depends on the market too.

If you work in a market with no competition, you can work on SEO yourself.

But - if you play different games - SEO could be extreme expensive mate!

Most SEO-related services are about saving time. If you are a relatively successful business owner, your time is probably worth more than what you pay agencies or freelancers to do the tasks for you.

YES.

Some need more than others.

Especially those who rely on white label services.

If your building your own backlinks, then your cost will be lower.

One expense that we all share is proxies.

you either pay with your time or with your money...
seo is expensive and It should be because it envolves a lot of work and time for a buddy who is doing it for you

SEO is VERY expensive to rank 1st page Med-High KW's.. better get traffic other "ways"

money can you save time.If you want backlink from old 2.0 web links , you could create and wait . Or give some money and get the links. what would do you prefer?

To save you huge time in advance

Yes, it costs money, a lot of it

No cost if you know how to do keyword research right.

Using parasites and writing content yourself.

But free takes time.

All of you get the quote from me because you have each said things which show either a fundamental misunderstanding of what SEO is, or you think the proverb time is money is meant to be taken literally. Money and time are not the same thing, they are not equal, they both have specific and different meanings. If something does not cost money, then it does not cost money. If I can walk up and take something without payment, that thing cost no money, regardless of the time it took me to walk up and take it.

The questions isn't "CAN you spend money on SEO services?" The question is "does SEO cost money?" Of course you CAN choose to spend money on SEO services, but that isn't the question. Some of you are even giving estimations about specifically how much money SEO is going to cost, which is flat out bizarre. Search engine optimization doesn't mean getting certain keywords to #1 of Google. It's a process, not a result. Decreasing the load time of your website is Search Engine Optimization. Linking to your own relevant other pages within your pages or articles is Search Engine Optimization. Submitting your sitemap to Google is Search Engine Optimization. Adding relevant tags and descriptions to Images is Search Engine Optimization.

If you have understand proper concept of how Search engine work and how to add proper quality content on your website then ofcource you can deal with SEO without money.
The best way please make online study for seo and then you may try with your won website.

the question is if you can invent/find/discover SEO methods that will rank you

I do agree with @SocialManager SEO at its core is near optimization that converts content into a format that suitable for ranking.

But for most cases I do believe you need external services, or tools that can provide these services.

So to change my answer to

NO.

I really like how this simple short question can create a huge pool of information and feedback.

Everyone gives a different perspective, and other commentate on that.

Really wish more threads would respond this way.
