Im using it as the same purpose your asking for, and No is not necessary to buy privacy, just delete it!

Edit: TO ALL that asking about Login detail, i just opened my Mail and got a bunch of Emails from them with my Acces detail, probably you have it by now!

Even just using a redirect, people can still look up the whois of your domain. It protects your privacy. I register with fake name always for sites that don't have privacy. But, you might get asked to verify your id sometimes. It's very rare but it can happen. So like, if it's an extreme porn website or doing some illegal activity, you don't want your real name associated with that publicly (probably). In that case you need to use a fake name or privacy.

No option to do a redirect from their dashboard from what I can see. So, I would just contact their support and ask them to do it for you. Or, you can use some other company that lets you point the nameservers to them, and they let you do the redirect.
