This is my first time actually having a online store. Typically I've made my money online programming other peoples junk.

I spent the last 10 days programming my first store. I have never done much marketing, only seo stuff not actually paid marketing like adwords. I have some free promo $100 dollar stuff not just from adwords. I'm almost complete and ready to open by the end of the week. I'm getting cold feet. I mean when I first started building and getting products up I had this idea I'd make practical money from this like at least $300+ from my first campaign, the first week or two.

On one hand I have this general idea what I'm going to spend my money on to make more money, on the other hand I'll be crushed if nothing comes out of this.

I'm spending all this money what happens if I only receive 10 customers or worse 1.

All that work down the drain.

I have investors, it's just not me. What happens if I have to go back and say, "well this is what we made for the week" they are going to get pissed. I never promised anything over the top with my investors but man I'm going to have to go to them with my tail between my legs if this doesn't turn out at least some practical money I can work with?

In the end I assume I'll have between $300 - $500 in ad money to put in. But if this doesn't make income I will have no more further ad money to put into it.

Any advice?

from the look of it , you've never done any paid ads before and expecting your "first campaign" to be a winner campaign .
sorry to bring up the bad news mate , but you need more experience and way more budget to actually find a winner campaign . you gotta reshuffle your cards and have some reasonable goals . thats' just my 2 cents

best of luck dude

Any suggestions? What's your personal statistics of making money on a $500 campaign? My idea is I make some little money of a few $100 dollars or more and build up to higher paying campaigns from it.

Like stacking up a bank roll.

From what I read.. u actually gonna advertise for free right using a coupon? If yes why u are worrying ??

Cross the bridge when you come to the bridge. Why worrying now?
Your campaigns may as well work great.
My tips for you:
1. Do not follow Google/Bing suggest bid. You can be on page one for MUCH less than they suggest. I have campaigns running for 3cents/click -and the keyword tool suggest a bid of $2 to be on first page!
2. Watch some tutorials and read stuff--especially case studies. You can find a lot kf great info that will help you to set your sales funnel properly.

First time is normally a failure, this is completely normal to fail. Rarely people ever become succesful on their first time. Most likely you will receive no purchased but it is a learning experience. I tried drop shipping myself after 2 years of research, but I found research never beats experience.

I've been working hard studying. I have found some really good search keywords for roughly 29 cents a click on adwords. The search results for the keywords are low, like 10,000 search results a month. Is this highly recommended or will I be throwing the money away using them?

Hard to give you any specific advise without knowing more about what you are selling and the best path to promote it.
How much is the revenue from each sale? Some products can make several $100 on just one sale.
Why adwords instead of instagram shout outs?
I am pretty sure that you can find some guides in the forum about this kind of promotion that will take you by the hand.

Through you experience what have you found that works or better the odds?

I don't want to give to much detail but my golden item is free, the customer only pays shipping which I will make roughly $8 dollars on per sale of that item.

Theresa million different variables which can make you fail, most variables for your specific situation. So only making mistakes will find the answer. My failure was colour scheme of the website, so little things I didnt research because I didnt know they existed but had a massive impact.

Was your color scheme black and white? Did you make the check out and buy now button grey or white your first go?

Start an instagram account. Grow it organically and be patient. It's free and will be useful for you in the long run.

Through my experience working on customer projects building up followers from social media sites are garbage. Not that it might work, it's just I don't have the time. That is a minor focus to me. I am using paid marketing for target customer base.

Then use your witchcraft. It may get the instant and positive results you need with paid ads.

For paid ads you might want to bankroll at least $2k - although as a beginner $5k is more realistic.

Yes, there's a possibility it'll fail, but if you never take the leap, you'll never know. Regardless, you'll come out of it with knowledge you can use on your next venture.

Best of luck!

I think you will really struggle to make that work adwords with such a low profit margin.

Although if you do want to use google run a google shopping campaign rather than a search campaign. The clicks will probably be cheaper and I have found convert better.

Bing will be cheaper but traffic will be low.

Biggest tip I would give is get a lot of products on google shopping. If you get some more obscure ones you can still get good cheap traffic that converts great.
