Hello guys,
Long story short i am a senior mechanical engineering student (graduating next year). But i do not like my major, at first i did not matter to me what i choose or what i study. i did not know what i like and mechanical engineering seemed a good option to me in terms of good job opportunities, etc..

Now i found that i really do not like what i am doing,i could not attend my lectures this semester but i managed to pass the midterms and the finals.
the next year will be my last year and i should a BSc in mechanical engineering from my university in my country and another BSc from a university in the UK (as my university has a partnership with this university).

Although my GPA is quite good 3.5 right now but i hate what i am doing. i can not see any motivations for all these efforts, For example the average salary for mechanical engineers in my country is only 5000$ / year.

I like technologies and apps. i watch every single review of PCs and smart phones. I wish i could work for a company like Facebook, google or similar companies in the tech niche. I like the idea of e-commerce ,selling things, stock market. i love the idea when a company make a software and sell it.

What should i do ?
-should i continue in what i am doing as many people does not like what they are doing any way ?
- should i learn programming ? and is programming useful for mechanical engineers ( i mean language like C++, php, paython, html)? should i continue in what i am doing as many people does not like what they are doing any way ?
-is there a way to combine what i love with what i studied ?
-Is it possible to start a side hustle online if i choose to continue what i am doing ?(earning 1000$/ month in my country is huge)
- I know my character and i know that i am the type of person who would love to work as a freelancer or like how programmers work in office or from home but unfortunately it is to late for me. can anyone help because i am really lost and depressed.

The richest people of the world do things that universitys don't teach. I didn't bother reading the thread because I've seen thousands like this, just do what you love

I am a mechanical engineer too. I was started to hating this subject/profession after 1st semester.
Thus, my graduation result was only 2.5 :) (To be exact 2.53).

I didn’t try to learn that subject instead of that i was investing my time on internet to learn how to make money.
Luckily, i was able to made few thousands dollar within my University life. It helped me to tell my parent that i want to switch my profession and University result nothing for me.

However, if you are a 3rd world country people like me then you have to survive a lot. Family, Relatives, Society No one going to support you.

So, here is my advice.
Start to learn how to make money Online. Then, select one specific topic. Remember this topic should have lots of job opportunity(or should have long term win).
Now, invest lots of time to learn that topic.

Untill, you make money through online stop using social media, forget your friends or girlfriend. If you cannot change your normal life then IM is not for you.

Just start learning IM and get the money coming in.

You don't want to do something you hate for the rest of your life

I too am a mechanical engineer. In the UK though. I have done it for my whole working life and now I'm trying to learn IM. I am lucky that I have a decent job and pay to fall back on if IM doesn't work for me.

I do not enjoy my job in the same way as i enjoy IM, but i am a good enough engineer to make money every single month. Even after i have some time away from it.

My personal opinion is if you only have 1 year left, do it. Even if it's something to fall back on. But also, always pursue your dreams.

Good luck bro

Thanks a lot for your reply

actually i am in the same situation. Third world country :) . Do you recommend learning IM (internet marketing) or programming? and is your online job is your full time job now ?
I can dedicate 5-9 months only to learn +10 hours per day what do you recommend me to start with or to invest my time in ?

Learn real estate and investing in stocks. Jump on a plane and get on a first world country, flip houses to make some starter cash and go from there, launch some Startups as well

i hope to achieve that one day. Thank you

Yeah of course flipping houses is very easy and fast...

Of course, if you can get to a first world country, mechanical engineering will give you much more money.

Best comment!

OP. The degree is just a piece of paper. Now-a-days that paper just show that you can start something and finish.

I studied Civil Engineering (graduated with a 2.9GPA smh), after that I worked in a engineering company for a 1 year. I called my friend and told him this is not for me, that there is not much thinking outside the box.

Everything I do now in Computer and IM related. 10x happier I made that decision

I would advice you to graduate first then do IM on the side. You can get a better paying job in your Bsc in Dubai for example.

Seems like my situation, i finish my degree in 2 years (5 years in total) and can't be bothered about finishing it since i realized that only thing that kept me in it was friends and social circle, as soon as we got more separated i realized this shit doesn't feel right, i'm planning on taking a year off then focusing on IM, and lets see where it leads to.
I'd rather earn $2k doing what i love than earning the double or triple doing shit i don't feel.

Get a job in mechanical engineering and learn IM in your free time. In this case, if the IM thing doesn't work, you can fall back on your "real job". Always have a backup plan, IM is no easy peasy.

Get a Job and start learning things about Robotics
More and more jobs are being added in this category :)
