How to submit site in DMOZ?

I remember I submitted a few sites to DMOZ years before they closed. I don't think they ever got updated in their index. I remember reading something about how it would sometimes take months or years for the submissions to get approved.

Yea lots of cats didn’t have admins, and lots had admins that only edited very occasionally, so depending where you submitted, your request could sit there for a long time.

I was an admin there. Valuable tourism section.

I could see the moderation logs. Obvious selling all over the place, I knew who the sellers were.

I'm a black hat and I never sold a placement at DMOZ.

For real.

I did place one of my sites though (100% legit) into the category.

I liked DMOZ, I think it was a cool project.

Google today is doing a LOT of hand quality control. Google is essentially a larger DMOZ with tons of automated stuff but deep down they categorize things and sort them kinda like a directory would. Note that Google's initial crawl seed was DMOZ for many many years. Sites in DMOZ were highly trusted.

Google's end goal was to have a automatically built index which was as high quality as a human made one. I think DMOZ played a big part in it.

Now kinda cannot submit new site, I can't even register an account there the page is broken link cannot find the page to register

Yeah. Just had a flashback moment down memory lane.

Memory fails me for details though, seems like 40 years ago.

There was a photographer I met in real life. She was working in same niche as I was and for some reason I can't remember now I discovered she was an editor there selling placements. I don't remember how I found out but it was funny, I thought what are the odds....she kept it secret and I never let her know that I knew. DMOZ was cool.

No no....as others said....DMOZ is read-only now. It's just a snapshot. It's no longer alive. There is no one behind it nor any submission system. It's just a bunch of frozen HTML pages.
