Selling Honey!

Hello BHW Users!

I posted in here earlier about how I could maybe monetise my bicycle by delivering groceries etc for elderly people In a rural area. I’m in school at the minute so not going to make it long. I’m thinking of buying honey, removing labels, branding and adding lavender flavour and selling to elderly people. I’m thinking of putting leaflets in my newspapers as I deliver, and leave business cards at my potwashing job at the restraunt. Please drop advice below!

Delivering groceries to elderly people is a good idea that can make money.

Re-labelling honey would probably be fraud, obtaining money by deception. Not a great thing on your cv.

Probably not a brilliant idea, but ideas are flowing for sure. You are obviously not at business school lol!
Think about costs, profit margin and time.
Unless you are getting g them wholesale. Also think about labelling, you have to print it, list all ingredients due to allergies etc. Back to the drawing board.
Go to you local store, buy a bucket, sponge and some cloths and start a car washing round. That's how I started and I had a bike. Cheap to start and all cash

I wouldn't personally do it myself for ethical reasons like others said. However, you are creating a new product.

That being said. At least in Canada and guessing USA too, there are very strict guidelines for serving food.

My entrepreneurship teacher had to get his food handlers certificate for just serving Ice cream & needed his kitchen to be up to commercial standards.

It's getting so strict that home based businesses are dying in the food industry as they're required a commercial kitchen that is separate from they're house kitchen.

So, you could get in a lot of shit from that aspect too.

For one. Your employer would prob not want you selling on the job as it's a conflict of Interest. But I'm sure if you explain that you are rebranding other products as your own he might just agree with all of us and fire you

I'm not sure what country you are in but rebranding food products is usually not allowed by law.

If you had the product packaged by a co-packer under your label that would fly should you have all the necessary permits though.

I think that this is past the scope of what you can do without a significant investment.

THIS. Also they any bacteria lands in their honey and they get sick, guess who is responsible. This isnt drop shipping and you cant just claim liability for the makers of they honey. This is YOUR label

There is something to be said for marketing local honey though. Maybe setting up a subscription service of selling locally produced honey. You can make a pretty simple front-end website and try to get some leads from local flea / farmers markets.

Just a straight up product rebrand feels like a no-no, but a "box" subscription selling local honey / products might do well. Even on a delivery system.

Most important thing here is to "fail fast" meaning if you can't get it to work, don't dedicate an entire year to it. Set up the website, make some sales, then figure out what products to sell.

Relabeling products and selling them as your own is an excellent idea. Lots of people have thought of doing that because it is quick, easy, and the product is already made. But it's fraud. Kind of like a knockoff handbag. People eventually got in trouble for copying bags from brand name companies and selling them. Louis Vuitton sued and won over $100 million from eBay for allowing people to sell fake LV bags on their website. Unless the person who created the product gives you permission to sell their product, you won't be able to sell it. You have to come up with your own products.

If you created a certain kind of bicycle that had some kind of cool trick to it, like maybe you figured out a way to defy gravity and the bike allows you to ride downhill without falling off or flipping over, and then someone came over and scratched your name "JOEMMO" off of it and sold it with their name on it "MOEMMO" you would be PISSED!

Also, stay away from food. It is HEAVILY regulated. You can't even mail a cookie from California without being harassed by the post office. If someone gets sick after eating something with your name/label on it, your parents will lose everything they own.

It's pretty hard to do, but in the USA, you can indeed get your home kitchen certified.

What other tasks do people not like doing? Like scooping poop in yards from dogs. Don't want to cross contaminate yards so need to use good practices, but cheap to get started and fits the niche of tasks people would prefer not to do.
