[Guide] - Don't Buy An Amazon Site, Make Your Own

I agree, I've tried or seen prime examples from nearly every service on the marketplace and they are absolutely worthless. Most are nothing more than a clunky chunky themeforest theme (probably nulled) slapped on a wordpress installation, something you could do in 10mins yourself. To make it worse, half the time you have to threaten the seller with their lives for them to deliver. Glad others are speaking up about this. Absolutely make your own, you can't do worse trust me.

boost this thread to the front page. Niche site services need to take care of their customers, high price product with sh*tty result.

Update

I mentioned that you can always buy a domain at auction and jumpstart your earnings, so below is a warning of what can go wrong.
  • Competitor buys a great domain ($4k) at auction - this domain has superb links which are not 100% niche relevant but pretty perfect.
  • Adds 100+ best buy / top 10 articles
  • No new links
  • 2 months later is number 1 for everything and I mean everything targeted
  • Hard bank time
  • I am jealous as hell and wish I had the domain
Google update today
  • Domain is gone, not coming up in google searches, no rankings
Interestingly, the owner must have seen this coming and was ready with plan B.
  • Domain is 301'd and all articles moved (today)
I am following this one closely, as I am VERY interested to see if it can pull back any of its rankings via the simple 301 redirect. Will let you know how it works out in the coming months.

Actual Site Updates

Site 1
  • Regular sales now, not daily but several per week.
  • SERPs continue to rise and new KW's hitting top 10
  • Purchased a juiced up TypePad account from @BassTrackerBoats, looking forward to what that does to my main KW sat at 5 currently.
Site 2
  • Made 1st sale on May 23rd, couple more since
  • 1 KW is top 10, most traffic is coming from Bing and Yahoo but I think the google update will be positive for this one
  • Still waiting for content to be delivered (3 months and counting!)
Tip - Bing traffic definitely converts better than Google in this niche. Older more affluent buyers coming from Bing who have the cash to splash. Don't underestimate Bing and Yahoo traffic.

Please update)

Sorry it has been so long, not really a journey thread but hope the updates help motivate you to give it a go.

There has definitely been an increase in troubled Amazon site services on BHW recently. Sometimes it is easier to just have a go yourself + you learn tons more.

Glad you liked it. Some niche services are excellent by the way, just remember, we get what we pay for! Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

thanks for this content !

Really sharp stuff. Thanks OP

Thanks, hope it helps you make a few $'s

Can you recommend or suggest some services ?

  • @Nerva is a REALLY good content writer, I would definitely recommend his services.
  • I am testing the TypePad service from @BassTrackerBoats at the moment, I think this could be pretty decent for easy KW's but will let you know.
  • Otherwise, I mostly buy expired domains with decent links and make PBN's + do manual outreach for guest posts etc.
well written guide...will follow this when I start next month.. ;)

Remember, take it slowly and focus on quality, best of luck when you begin.

I meant buy ready made niche site service

The point of this guide is to do it yourself. I do not recommend anyone. Check the shitlist forum for a plethora of reasons why not.

I have seen auction domains crush my niches for medium difficulty KW's in a couple of months (entire niche),

Awesome post! Thank you so much!

I'm a bit afraid to use an expired domain for my site, would prefer to start with a brand new and clean one.
But if I buy an expired domain that used to have some content related to my niche and make a 301 redirect to my brand new domain, will I still get some link juice?

I bought 2 recently both headaches with buggy themes plugin conflict ,pricing tables that don't work ,the main page is garbage list goes on . In fact id sa y it's taken me weeks to work out what the developer did .so far from being a easy start option it's turning out to be one headache after another trying to work out\ fix issues . Better build it yourself than try and follow someone else's work who once the money is taken are not overly supportive in fixing prob after prob.so I'll make a new site and try and salvage what I can from these two .less so learned

Update

Does a 301 redirect for a penalised domain work?

I previously talked about a competitor who bought a domain at auction for $4k and jumped to top 3 for 1000's of KW's, then how the Google update killed his site and he 301'd it to a new domain (also auction domain), well you might be wondering if that worked? If you could do the same?
  • New auction domain did nothing in the SERPS, no recovery. It would seem that either Google discounted the link juice or the penalty was passed to the new domain.
Again, he has a plan b.
  • He has now 301'd the penalised domain to Bing :D
  • 301'd the 2nd auction domain to a 3rd auction domain and added the 100's of Best Of buyers guides to the new auction domain.
Result
  • Lots of top 10's.
Conclusion

301 redirecting a penalised domain, simply does not work. Buying another decent auction domain and moving the articles does work.

Takeaway point

I have followed this guys domains a fair bit in the last 18 months, and the one thing I have learnt from him is to not give up. Yes, you may have to change tactics, but you can always get your earnings back some how.

Another example is one of his sites which was built on another auction domain (obviously his go to method), the problem was that it simply was not ranking. After a while he ditched the domain and moved all the articles to another of his domains. The extra content really helped this site and it is ranking for a TON of KW's. Which I am replicating ;)

Again, be prepared to have a plan b, plan c etc. If you keep going, you will make money. This guy makes $1000's, potentially $10k+ every week from his sites (I have discovered 30+ so far...), it is worth the effort.

Actual Site Updates

Site 1
  • Sales continue to grow
  • I have added 3 more money pages which were super easy competition and they are all top 5 for their KWs
  • I am currently pushing Pinterest traffic at it, so as to increase traffic, as it does not have many monthly searches on Google. Should eke out a few more sales a week.
Site 2
  • Effected by several Google updates
  • This site has not taken off as I would have liked, but then again I have not built any additional links.
  • Still bringing in a sale every 10 days, so making about $100 per month
  • I am likely to move the content to a new domain and see how it goes
Sites 3 - 6
  • Made a few more sites on expired domains, which I have left ageing for the last 4 months.
  • KW's starting to hit top 10 now, and daily visits increasing nicely for all of them.
  • I will add affiliate links to monetise in the next few weeks.
Future plans
  • Increase Ahrefs DR test - I have 1 non monetised site which has a good amount of content and currently ranks mostly 10-20 for its main KW's. I have tested increasing its Ahrefs DR to see if it gives it a boost in the SERPS, will let you know. Otherwise, I will build links to get into the top 10 and monetise the traffic.
  • Content is king test - Converted another expired domain, which I had left ageing with its old content for several months, to a new potential money site. It has a new fast theme, and a bunch of filler articles. My intention is to add a LOT of content to this money site and see if it can become an authority site.
Lastly, sorry for not updating this sooner, it was not intended as a journey post. I was trying to inspire you to simply create your own Amazon affiliate sites. They really are quite easy, as long as you put in the effort.

Now to your questions and comments.

Sorry it has taken so long, to be honest I completely forgot I wrote this :D I hope the above helps.

Expired domains can work, and sometimes do not (please see above). I have a number of money sites which were brand new domains, which I then 301'd expired domains to, and that has worked nicely. Remember, I always let my expired domains age before redirecting them, as that tends to pass on the original link juice.

I bought 2 recently both headaches with buggy themes plugin conflict ,pricing tables that don't work ,the main page is garbage list goes on . Sorry to hear about your experience, you can always raise a complaint on the Shit List to get things sorted. Sellers on BHW sign up to a charter or set of rules, you are absolutely within your rights to hold them to their sales promises.

This is exactly why I created this thread in the 1st place. Always better to make your own. Cheaper, better quality and a LOT less hassle.

;)

Sorry for bumping old thread
He has now 301'd the penalised domain to Bing
What do you mean by this? He redirected the penalised domain's pages to corresponding Bing search results page?
That's some Einstein level shit!
After a while he ditched the domain and moved all the articles to another of his domains.
By ditched, do you mean 301'd it to his other domain? If not, doesn't the articles count as plagiarized content by Google since the articles of the ditched domain still stays in Google's index?
