Dead PC? Blue screened now no bios beeps :(

Seems like probably the motherboard to me but looking for second opinions incase I missed something obvious.

PC blue screened while just watching a YouTube video. I forget the exact error but the .sys file it referenced is to do with the soundcard driver.

Now it won't even POST. Fans spin no beeps.

Removed all cards, ram & HDD power cables - still just fans and no beep.

I can't test the PSU at the moment as we're in the middle of moving house and I've no idea where my multimeter is.

No beep could be a dead CPU but would it actually BSOD when the CPU fails?

So does this sound like a dead motherboard?

And also if I swap out the motherboard for an identical one can I get away without needing to reinstall windows?

Yep, it sounds like a dead motherboard, if the fans are spinning, the screen is black and no BIOS.

If you can't boot and can't even access the BIOS, i'm afraid, you will need to re-install the OS after you replaced the motherboard.

Oh I’ve actually had the same thing happened to me once.

Long story short, it wouldn’t turn on at all, tried eliminating which hardware doesn’t work, and figured out it was the motherboard.

Normally Blue screen means memory issues. Remove the Ram and listen for the beep sounds and try starting in safe mode without drivers

Aw nuts thanks for the replies. It's doing a reinstall I want to avoid. But if I have to do a reinstall then I may as well bite the bullet and order a new pc.

Sorry proxygo should have also mentioned yes I've reset the bios.

Maybe if it's a minor problem like a dead capacitor you could try to go to service to repair it if it's not too expensive and if it's worth it for you, of course.

Probably nothing serious. Remove CMOS and everything out of the case and just have motherboard with RAM installed and try to boot than go from there, could be that CPU burned up but highly unlikely.

This is extremely weird.

The same thing happened to me yesterday. Not joking dude. I was watching a Youtube Video and got BSOD Error. When booting up my screen went black.
BlueScreen Error was : "faulty_hardware_corrupted_page" - and i had some BSOD's in the past (last 2 weeks) which had error "SYSTEM FAILURE EXCEPTION"

I replaced my motherboard today and the computer went up and booted again with a screen showing. Now working with it for the last 30 minutes i recieved another bluescreen that said "ATTEMPTED TO WRITE READ ONLY MEMORY"

Curious, what motherboard do you have and did you experience any bluescreens in the past?

Malwarebytes Corporate (liter than the normal version)
HitmanPro Alert


Also, you would be better off at quora or Microsoft forums but keep in mind antivirus software.

Could well be a capacitor. Headphones started picking up RF noise from the pc recently which could be related.

Yea I'd be happy to know the full name. Just imagine a bunch of motherboards from the same company stop working in the same time period for the Same reason Haha.

Negatively. Everything seems to have gone up a lot over last few years UK prices anyway.

I checked it's a P8P67 PRO V3 and older than I thought it was according to Google so yeah probably a dead cap as suggested above. I'll keep the tin foil ready though in case yours is the same and Google have found a new block method.

iam afraid you spamming youtube a lot and youtube dont like and send virus to your computer. the virus is not really a virus but it can raise your cpu and ram voltage so it become bsod. lesson learned: dont ever try to spam youtube because there is a lot of clever people out there .. get it?

Turn off apps you don't know, by using a firewall

Try removing the parts like processor and heat sink, RAM and CMOS battery. Check the battery if it still has juice, or replace it. Take the RAM and clean it's teeth with an eraser, and then with a soft lint-free cloth. Plug the processor back, put some thermal paste and put the heat sink back on. Then put all other components back. Now, try starting the PC again.

If it still does not boot, throw the motherboard in the garbage and buy a new one.

You can test your PSU without multimeter..
Just short the green(4th no.) and black(5th no.) wire together..
