For those that were asking, they ask for a picture of your face to verify against the id. I took a picture of my own face and then simply flipped the webcam around and took a picture off my screen of the id I wanted to use that had my face on it. Easy peasy. Verification went through, just waiting on the coin. So, no, you don't hold it next to you. Just a shot of your face, then the front, then the back.

EDIT - I just noticed the ID I used was expired two years ago, 2017. It still went through.
