Just a question is this going to be published on the main site or a contributor site, or some xyz.reuters.com that many press release sellers sell. Will this ever come on their homepage or stay inside inner pages only?

Great question! All articles are published on the main domain (i.e. www.chicagotribune.com/your-article-link)
I wouldn't publish an article on xyz.chicagotribune.com and advertise it as a feature on Chicago Tribune..

We even had articles rank top for huge one-word keywords on the main topic pages, such as Europe, Crime, Google, etc. on pages like this:

All articles are indexable (there won't be any noindex tags) and according to BassTrackerBoats his article even got do-follow links (I just played safe and indicated in the BST that all articles will have no-follow links).

Only articles written by in-house staff are displayed on the homepage. If you want a feature/interview article published by a staff writer, that would be an advertorial and would cost you $10,000-$15,000 a piece or more (yes they actually charge that. On Forbes it'd cost you around $70k for an advertorial..). So you can't realistically expect the same homepage exposure on top-tier media sites from a $500-800 feature..
