Forum comments are very natural ways to get links. They are definitely not considered black hat unless you are specifically doing it to try to manipulate search engine rankings.
Definitely not true. Google even gives advice and tools to optimize your website for search engine rankings.

Secondly, the anchor text, a strong Google ranking factor, is also chosen according to customer’s preferences. These two reasons are enough to effectively manipulate search engine rankings which is why this SEO technique is classified as a serious black hat.
2. Spam Comments
Have you ever witnessed the situation where a newly submitted comment on your website turned out to be a… spammer’s with its worthless message and non-related promotional link?
Exactly, these are the actions we’re referring to.
Spam comments are intended to create free backlinks. Links gained in this way are 100% ‘nofollow’ and transfer no SEO juice, which makes this technique a real waste of time.

I can see you embedded some videos from YouTube. I have a Mobile phone review website. And in so many of my quality unique contents I do embed random relevant videos to them. I want to know if am doing something wrong by embedding. Cos I know coping just the links will be bad.

Yes, i agree, if you've learned a few things about black vs white hat, you'll know that it tends to be easier going the dark side. However just because they call it black doesn't mean its bad. Buying links on other sites is a way of improving your backlink portfolio and can push you up in the serps and spinning your content can also help google to recognize you as a guy who knows what he's talking about..even if it is a little unreadable sometimes. Some of the best things to do is just slap some ppc ads on yoru website and send traffic. Don't shoot for easy places like chitika or adcash, shoot for higher end networks like adsense to monetize the best. If you can push your way up in google the original way with backlinks thats great, but another option is sape links. These can punch you to the top really fast and is my favorite way to achieve lots of search engine traffic. Thanks for the info sweety.

I noticed a few months ago a new competitor company I had never heard of before started posting hundreds of spam blog posts with nonsense content for the purposes of link building. Digging deeper I found they have 3 websites! They have different pages for every keyword with pretty much duplicate content paraphrased. I've tried to report them but all 3 sites are on the first page of google! How long until Google notices this and penalizes them?

Private Blog Network is a gray hat/black hat tactic of using a set of multiple sites to funnel link juice to other sites (so-called “money sites”). It’s exciting, but my mind-set about SEO has changed… I used to over-think it, trying to come up with the “right” variety of periods to use key keywords. Now I just motivate our authors to pay attention to providing something of value to our users’ lifestyles in every publish. I then look to see if I can develop the headline to create it both catchier and stickier. It seems to be operating. Search engines just increased our web pagerank from a 4 to a 5 and visitors went from 280,000 to 500,000 trips and from 800,000 to 1.5 thousand page views a 30 days.

One black hat technique is to do things to attack the top ranking pages if you are in a business industry. For example: I used to work with a web dev company, and one of our clients suddenly tanked on Google search listings, upon further investigation an unscrupulous SEO company had purposely gone through directory listings and purposely changed the name of the business and the address, and also went through creating a bunch of unrelated duplicate listings on those sites. This severely affected a client and took a while to clean up the mess. Instead of creating high quality content and doing things the 'right way' they chose to try and sink a competing business, and at the same time probably charging the client they were working for a small fortune to do bad practices that could get a site blacklisted from Google.

Good article Kasia. I agree with pretty much all of your points. But there are definitely places for paid links and the sort, as long as they are not over done and are worked in with natural SEO, you're going to be good and it can REALLY help.

I can see you embedded some videos from YouTube. I have a Mobile phone review website. And in so many of my quality unique contents I do embed random relevant videos to them. I want to know if am doing something wrong by embedding. Cos I know coping just the links will be bad.

Yes, i agree, if you've learned a few things about black vs white hat, you'll know that it tends to be easier going the dark side. However just because they call it black doesn't mean its bad. Buying links on other sites is a way of improving your backlink portfolio and can push you up in the serps and spinning your content can also help google to recognize you as a guy who knows what he's talking about..even if it is a little unreadable sometimes. Some of the best things to do is just slap some ppc ads on yoru website and send traffic. Don't shoot for easy places like chitika or adcash, shoot for higher end networks like adsense to monetize the best. If you can push your way up in google the original way with backlinks thats great, but another option is sape links. These can punch you to the top really fast and is my favorite way to achieve lots of search engine traffic. Thanks for the info sweety.

I noticed a few months ago a new competitor company I had never heard of before started posting hundreds of spam blog posts with nonsense content for the purposes of link building. Digging deeper I found they have 3 websites! They have different pages for every keyword with pretty much duplicate content paraphrased. I've tried to report them but all 3 sites are on the first page of google! How long until Google notices this and penalizes them?

Private Blog Network is a gray hat/black hat tactic of using a set of multiple sites to funnel link juice to other sites (so-called “money sites”). One black hat technique is to do things to attack the top ranking pages if you are in a business industry. For example: I used to work with a web dev company, and one of our clients suddenly tanked on Google search listings, upon further investigation an unscrupulous SEO company had purposely gone through directory listings and purposely changed the name of the business and the address, and also went through creating a bunch of unrelated duplicate listings on those sites. This severely affected a client and took a while to clean up the mess. Instead of creating high quality content and doing things the 'right way' they chose to try and sink a competing business, and at the same time probably charging the client they were working for a small fortune to do bad practices that could get a site blacklisted from Google.

Curiosity question...If a spam comment hits my website, but I mark it as spam and don't approve it so it doesn't show on my site, will it still hurt my SEO? Thanks for this good article. -Vickie

I see allot of link exchange websites in local niches, this is something businesses should know no longer works, along with business directory listings in totally unrelated niches. If you want to rank and avoid penalties do things right you will prosper in the long run.

Let's go ahead and read the first line of the article you posted
"Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines"
So anything you do is manipulating your site ranking therefore it's considered a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines...

Wrong wrong wrong. I can't say this enough, you don't understand what you are reading. Notice the third word? INTENDED. OF COURSE people are going to build links which will manipulate a site's ranking, and that is totally OK. Google supports people building links to their site and other people building links to their sites. It's when people do it for the sole purpose of bumping their site hire in the search engine rankings when Google starts to get suspicious and have a problem.

There are many ways to view every technique used in SEO.
Blackhat technique are usually in the grayhat areas until google deems it blackhat.
My answer was very simple, you are the one who are going balls deep into it, and at the same time, what you are basing your opinions on are google's facts.
Which is fine but just because google doesn't consider them Black Hat doesn't make them not black hat techniques.
So we can go ahead and agree to disagree on this matter as the question OP asked was super vague and up for debate and honestly instead of straight up saying someone wrong and forcing your own opinions onto someone else, feel free to constructively criticize them instead. There is always Area of Improvement for everyone.
