How do you guys determine what start charging for your freelancer service?

This depends on a lot of factors. How much do you need to live? Is the service you offer qualitatively competitive with others? What do others around you charge for the same service?

How much is your time worth to you?

When I used to do freelance jobs, I used to charge in hourly basis. So, let's say a job which will take 10 hours to complete; I would charge like $200 at $20/h. I used to clearly mention the sum and hours in the invoice too.

Its depends on work and time.

Take your monthly bills, living costs etc. Assume $1000. Add 20% for profit. $1200.

Average month 4 weeks. 1200 / 4 = 300.

5 day week 300 / 5 = 60

8 hour day 60 / 8 = 7.5


So there you have

A weekly fee OR project minimum charge $300

Day rate $60

Hourly rate $7.5


Scale prices to include tax/savings etc.

Then add X based on your industry level or location. For example, when I was freelancing my day rate was around £380. If I got work a city it was £450. Anything in and around London £600 because that was the going rate. So you need to be flexible, use the basic guidelines above as what you need to make sure you need to be charging and earning as a MINIUM to maintain your current lifestyle. Anything above that allows you to grow the business.

Check out what kinds of offers the competition is making and look at yourself honestly to determine the tier of service you’re capable of giving. Then adjust the pricing accordingly. Sites like Fiverr, Upwork, and even BHW have been hugely helpful to me when I was looking to find out how much other people in my industry were making.

It's easy to say and tough to follow. Here so many freelancers were waiting for jobs, so if you get any people like that transfer it to other people who are in your contact which helps them. Where you are not interested to do.

You don't increase your price for inflation/rise in the cost of living? I used to increase my prices by 5% every 12-18 months. Otherwise your worth less than you were when you started. Taxes get reviewed every year in the UK, so should your prices - I'm not saying you should lower but I think you should look at increasing...
