True, but, what normies are doing is using blockers because the ads are using more system resources than the content.
Honestly: I've been using blockers for so long, I've upgraded since then, and, i'm probably exaggerating the perceived effect it would have on performance, but, those memories are still there. You have a point that it might not be a terrible idea to at least have a look to study layout paterns, but, again, your average joe web surfer would have no interest in seeing adverts for pure study purposes, and, if they perceive the ads as "intrusive" for any reason, and, if its easier to stop them then endure them, they will follow that path of least resistance. Its sad but true.
Anti-blocker propaganda, such as "sorry, but, we noticed your using ad blocker..." alerts have little effect on them.
Anti-adblock people are not wrong. Like it or not, its a capitalist society and content has to be funded one way or another. If you only want content where its solely funded by the creator and thus "fair". Its not, because, in the world as is, that leaves content creation as an activity for the independently wealthy who have time and money to sink into content creation with absolutely no hope of remuneration.
I'm not in a financial position where i create a site and create content if its not going to pay for itself, but, i want it to be "fair" so, i think of impression advertising as the magic ticket. I can get my hosting cost and time spent remunerated without having to charge for content or "trick" anyone into buying anything. The blockers prevent this model from working, but, i empathize with blocker users, because, its "fair" to not see ads you don't want. Its a catch 22.
Aside from the philosophy aspect and focusing on the reality, i still might make it work through mobile traffic, since: people are far less likely to have blockers on phones and tablets than desktops and laptops.
