So I just had to terminate a contract with a client because she is too dumb to understand SEO.

I had an entire plan layout for her. It was mostly keyword research and on page SEO. When it came to content she didn't want to hire an SEO content writer so she decided to write the contents herself. I sent her the SEMRush content template and to my surprise (not really) she couldn't understand what the tags and meta descriptions are. I had to explain to her over and over again until I got tired and just told her to write the content and I'll worry about the tags. She still for some reason kept bugging about the tags. Why is it so hard to write the damn content!

Today she messages me telling me that she's doing all the work and why she even paying me for? She said she saw a Youtube video on Wix SEO and why should she pay me?

WHAT? THEN WHY DID YOU HIRE ME?

After explaining to her 3 more times on the phone what I was hired for she still couldn't comprehend something so simple. I spend so much time and energy on it and it was for only 130 dollars so I decided it was not worth it.

I am simply not dealing with them. the way they make you feel not worth the $

I have only read the title, but I think you have to always feel your customer happy, if you can't deal with "customers from hell" then your not suitable for this job. Money doesn't grow on the trees, your customers struggled to earn them so if they put their trust on you proves to deserve them.

This is a big imho though, you're free to not dealing with them while ruining your reputation online, gaining negative feedback and then come back here crying because no one buy anything anymore from you.

Absolutely never take on clients that don't pay you at minimum $800. People who are cheap are annoying and expect the world for bargain prices so you're not doing yourself any favours here.

Cut and run sir, cut and run.

No but really, I’ve had a few ‘nightmare clients’ before and you can never get peace of mind. I wouldn’t take 10 bad clients over 1 good client

You probably haven't had clients then if that's your opinion.

I've found that the less I charge, the more demanding the client will be.

For many service-based professions, especially in B2B, pricing is a reflection of your value. If you price yourself at first-time-student rates, your clients will view you as inexperienced and in need of hand-holding. But if you price yourself closer to agency rates, your clients will view you as an experienced professional, and give you the freedom to act accordingly.

I have learned that most the time, the ones that talk to you like shit are the ones who have the most money. Keep them happy and the reward will increase.

Good luck and stay calm.

That's not how it works at all, rich clients don't just throw around extra money because they're feeling happy.

If a client sabotages the work OP was hired to do, that could easily open the way for a dispute on the grounds that the work wasn't fully completed.

SEO is not cheap nowadays anyways. Tell the clients before you are even hired that days of article submissions are over. If they understand what you said then continue with them. If they don't even understand that then dump and walk

You're only responding to half my statement. How about include the whole thing next time so it makes sense?

I apologize, I'll respond to the full comment.

That's not how it works at all, professionalism is not tied to wealth. Those with more money are perfectly capable of being polite, and poor people are equally capable of being overly demanding. And no client, regardless of their wealth, will ever just throw around extra money because they're feeling happy.
