WHY AM I DOING THIS
I see people in here every day that have tried and failed/gave up on Shopify/dropshipping/e-commerce whatever you want to call it I don't care, that are still searching for a way to make some extra money online. I have been replying daily suggesting these methods to people and now I just want to create this thread so that I can point people to it.
Anyone who has attempted e-commerce has a few skills that they have acquired while attempting to do it regardless of whether they were successful or not and these skills just so happen to be very marketable and you can easily start to make some money with them pretty much immediately if you choose to do so.
These are not methods you are going to get rich overnight on but it is something that you could easily start to make $50 - $300/day with practically in your sleep, I will explain why this works and how first then I will outline what you can offer people.
WHY THIS WORKS
When people first decide they want to try Shopify/E-commerce it is usually because they saw someone talking about it in a forum, they saw an ad on facebook/youtube with flashy sales numbers telling them that it is possible for them to also make the same amount of money. So people will naturally start to spike their interest and they will start to do a little bit of research, maybe read some forums, join some facebook groups, post some youtube comments, you get it. These people have no idea how to actually do any of it they have no idea where to even start and most of them will take months setting up their store thinking everything needs to be just right before they actually start doing anything. In the meantime, these people hang out in Facebook groups, forums and keep watching youtube videos. These are the people that you want to talk to focus on.
These people are overwhelmed they are not moving forward because they either don't know how or they doubt that they will do it right, so they just still continue to keep consuming more knowledge online usually forever and never actually get anywhere.
The good news for you is that there are 10's of THOUSANDS of these people hanging out in various Facebook groups at any given moment.
If you have attempted e-commerce before you already know more than these people, And all you need to do is interact with them, answer some of their questions that you know how to answer, this will build trust and rapport with these people. Don't lie to them and try to act like some big Shopify hotshot. Be real be genuine and make sure to let them know that if they want you to do some of this stuff for them that you will offer them that service for a reasonable price.
You should start by joining at least 5 - 10 of the big Shopify Facebook groups.
Scroll through these groups whenever you have any spare time, and start replying ONLY to the questions you can relate to or you actually know the answer DO NOT try to answer questions that you have no idea how to answer you will only make yourself look stupid and you will be doing people a disservice.
Here is an example of how you should reply.
(Very Simple Question I Would Hope You Can Answer More Complicated Than This)
Question: Does anyone know how I can set up my shipping weights to offer free shipping over $30?
Answer: Hey "Name", All's you have to do is go into your shipping settings select the proper shipping zone and click "add new shipping rate" and select "FREE" shipping rate and set the minimum $ amount to $30. Hope this helps, Feel free to PM me if you can't figure it out!
Do you notice how I did not offer to do it for them? that is because this person has no idea who I am, so Instead, I explained how they could do it themselves, this will build trust and make people like you. Now if this person goes and tries to do it and cannot figure it out they will most likely send you a private message and recommend helping them further to figure out their problem. But make sure to tell them that you do Shopify services for a living and that if they ever have any work for you or know anyone that does to let you know and you will take care of them!
That would look something like this:
Person Needing Help: Thanks for your help, it is working now!
You: No problem! by the way, I do Shopify store setups, and store design for a living so if you ever have any work for me or know anyone else that needs help just let me know, I have cheap prices and am willing to help! Hope you have a great day!
I never recommend asking for money before you have done something to help someone, now that we have helped this person for free they will naturally kind of feel like they owe you and either keep you in mind in the future or ask you immediately for help on things they have no idea how to do.
Don't just help 3 people and come back and tell me that this does not work. You should spend all of your free time just helping people for free and you will start to get business by doing this. And if it is just not working at all you should really analyze your process and see why people don't like you. Don't be pushy be a friend.
I am in NO WAY telling you to start spamming the internet telling people you are offering services, You will make very few sales and you will just piss people off and you will get banned everywhere. Don't be lazy and actually interact with people
WHAT CAN YOU SELL
Ok, so now that we have discussed how you can easily get customers above now I am sure you are curious what types of things you can sell and typically what you can charge for them. So I have laid those about below.
#1. Store Setup - Listen it does not take a rocket scientist to do Shopify store setup, it is mostly just tedious work that includes:
What you should charge: $20 - $50
obviously the cheaper the price the more work you will get, but you will get to a point where you need to trade your time for more money, so I recommend starting pretty low especially if you are in a cash crunch. You can always start to raise your prices over time.
#2. Store Design - This is something that takes a little bit more skill and if you are not good at design do not offer this unless you have someone that you can outsource it to. the easiest way to get a bad reputation is to design an ugly store only for someone to be angry and post in FB groups and warn people not to hire you because you suck. If you do decide to do store designs make sure to offer unlimited revisions and fix anything your customer does not like.
What you should charge: $50 - $200
I do not recommend charging anything more than that if you don't have much experience with designing Shopify stores. Over time if you become really good you can charge a lot more.
#3. Email Setup - Everyone wants a domain matching email but most of them have no idea how to set them up, if you don't know how youtube it and charge people to set them up for them.
What you should charge: $10 - $20
#4. Autoresponder Setup - this is an easy sell as everyone is told about how important it is to have proper email marketing, You can set up abandon cart emails for people, welcome series, win back series the whole 9. You can easily google "Best Abandon Cart Email Templates" and find a bunch of free email templates, copy and paste, and you're done.
What you should charge: $20 - $300
It really depends on how much you are setting up if they want you to set up a bunch of crazy email sequences you can charge them more but if it is something as easy as a basic abandon cart campaign I would charge them $20 - $40
#5. Social Media Growth: These people are very new and do not know how to grow their pages and most don't even know that there are 1000's of services that offer this. So you should definitely ask them if they want you to manage their Instagram growth and you can either do it yourself with software or outsource it to someone else and keep the profit.
What to charge: $20 - $100/month
#6. App Setup: There are 1000's of flashy apps and that can be very intimidating for someone just getting started, offer to set up any of there apps for them. if you don't know how to set it up, use google, youtube, the app support, figure it out for them.
What to Charge: $5 - $50
Really depends on how complex the app is. basic apps I would only charge $5 - $15
If you have no luck with any of this then just start posting in groups telling people you are a VA that is experienced in Shopify and looking for work. Someone will hire you. You won't make much money but how much are you making now?
You can literally charge people for anything you know how to do, I did not come anywhere close to covering everything but if you start with that you will get the idea and you will start to see opportunities to make money charging people for different things as people ask you to do them.
E-commerce is not going anywhere I have been doing it for about 5 years now and had huge success. But when you are just getting started it is not the easiest way to start generating money.
Hope this helps I will respond to questions posted below!
* Don't Make Excuses - You don't need a website or anything fancy for people to pay you for work, you can have people pay you directly through paypal, venmo, facebook payments, bitcoin etc... I have even paid people through money gram for services don't make it complicated you can start doing this as soon as you finish reading this post.
P.s I'm providing this for free and want to keep it that way, please don't rip it and turn it into an ebook and try to sell it to anyone.
