Hi all,

When you register a domain for your blog or website. Do you fill in personal information?

I would not like itnto have my whois information show up so I am looking for a registrar that offers whois protection.

You can fill in whatever information you like when you register the domain.
I always recommend getting whois protection, namecheap has free unlimited whois protection AFAIK.

You can try namesilo.

Namesilo have offered free protection forlife for years.
Namecheap used to be first year only, but have extended it to life of the domain too.

Several other registrars followed that trend also.

ICANN states that you must provide real information in the whois - https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/contact-verification-2013-05-03-en

Namecheap offers free whois privacy, I personally use whois privacy and do not use real infomation on the whois.

Thanks all, just noticed indeed. Registered with Namecheap :)

Njal.la and Flokinet.is is what you want. If you are looking for privacy services, this services are currently the best on the market, if you don't want to provide your real information.

Between Flokinet and Njal.la, I recommend Njal.la

If you are only searching to hide your personal details in Whois, Namecheap and Namesilo does that for free, but your information must be real.

Njal.la have top notch privacy protection. You don't even need to waste time entering details when you register using njal.la

It is up to you. U can give them fake info. sometimes u get away with it. so long as u don't play dumb and make your fake alias donald trump.
Sometimes the registrar will pull your account for an icann verification check
they demand you submit documents proving you are who you say you are
your domain will be offline until you comply and pass their verification
had this happen to friend who was a first time customer on namecheap
i never had a issue with namesilo.

For what OP is asking for, the free whois protection is more than sufficient.

Sites like Njalla are more for people who need absolutely untraceable registration. For example, if someone ran a site that would normally get DMCA takedown requests, NameCheap would hand over the owner's info in a heartbeat for the owner to be sued in court. But Njalla simply doesn't store that information in the first place, and even a police raid wouldn't reveal anything about the domain owners.

Njalla ran by the guys who ran thepiratebay. privacy based registrar. @Stavro explained what makes them unique. its up to consumer to decide what is 'best' for them.
