Flippa Flips a Switch, and Sells Stop

Thank you!
I'm not sure if that would be the best option. I think we first have to supply the opportunities in the marketplace, ie sellers, and only then comes the buyers concern.
Of course we have to have some buyers from the beginning, and we do have some, but that's not my concern at the moment.

I guess it all goes together. I wouldn't waste time listing on a marketplace until it had enough traffic to make it worth the time.

flippa has divided its traffic almost completely into 2 , potential buyers and heavy spenders are directed to bussiness.flippa.com while domain, apps and starter sites are directed to old flippa.com its not a bad approach realistically it weed out most scammers from the site but increasing their fees to almost $200 per business listing or $65 for starter sites is outrageous. on top of a 10% sucess fee. they are almost the only reliable source for purchasing or selling web business aside from empire flippers so they behave the way they want, knowing potential competitors crushing them are far from coming.

It came out of sitepoint, not digitalpoint.
Good point. But still, it came out of people working together on a forum. It could happen again, but I don't think the market is strong enough for it. Unless enough talented people here want to partner up and get something started.

I don't think it's a good approach. Maybe it makes more money for them, but it's no good for me. I think as a new visitor, many see the business prices and bounce. I've also seen a lot more bidders who come on, bid on 20 sites, and never come back.

Yeah, I agree, and good luck to you. I'm not a real web designer or marketer, though. What types of sites are you selling?

I sell eCommerce dropship websites. I know it might be dumb for me to create competition for myself, but you're from BHW so here's a quick strategy that you can try.

1. Set up a Wordpress site and install woocommerce.

2. Download and install the free dropship.me plugin and import 50 popular products into your store. Shopify has a similar app called Oberlo and many people that use Shopify also uses the Oberlo app. You can find successful stores that uses that app here https://exchangemarketplace.com/categories/oberlo-stores-for-sale . Find a good niche and import similar products in your store.

3. Design your site. It doesn't have to be an award winning design. You can use a theme like Flatsome that already have built in store templates. You can import a template, change the images and text. Add a contact us page, terms and conditions, privacy policy, and a page about returns. Very easy and basic.

4. Create a simple logo using a site like thenounproject.com and photoshop.

5. If you havent done this already, add an SSL certificate to the site. Most hosting companies offer this for free now.

When you're done you'll have a site with some real potential of being successful, since it's based on another website that's already successful. Make 2 of these sites a week using a different niche for each site. In 5 weeks you'll have 10 sites in different niches all based on other successful sites. If you picked a good niche and have a design that don't look too bad, then you can probably make about $200 - $300 for that site. If you sell a site for $300, you'll make about $185 in pure profit after domain cost and Flippa/Paypal fees. Plus you'll make your $65 listing fee and $10 domain fee back. So you'll gross $260 from each site @ $300 a site.

When designing your sites use stock photos that look great on all screen sizes. For your main header image uses a photo that's at least 1920 px in width. I see too many sites with blurry images and blurry logos. This can kill your design and make your site look unprofessional. Good images can make your site pop even if you're not a professional designer. stock.adobe.com offer a free 30 day trial.

When listing your site on Flippa, set your auction to run for no more than 7 days. Any longer then that is just a waste of time. Flippa will bury your site in the back and nobody will see it. 5 day auctions that starts on a business day(Mon - Fri) and ends on a business day(Mon - Thurs) works best for me.

Start running ads on your site and see if you can generate some sales within a few weeks or maybe even a few days. This can take you from making $200 - $300 a site to $2000 - $3000 a site. This seller have Bing and Adwords coupons you can use for testing purposes https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/b...pons-digital-ocean-coupons-available.1039471/

Download this course to learn about Facebook ads https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/get-ben-malol-ecom-bootcamp-297.942111/ . Just read the parts about interest targeting and managing the ad. The rest is about setting up a shopify store and you don't really need that if you're using Wordpress. I taught my friend this and she made about $500 in a few weeks from her first business that sold women hair products. I sold it on Flippa a few months later for a lot more.

It takes work but the money is still there. You just got to take action!

The days of selling 30+ starters sites for $69 - $100 are over. Just do the math. $10 for domain, $65 to list on flippa, 10% success fee if the site sells, 3% Paypal fee. If your site sales for $100 on the first try you'll earn about $12 in profit. If you choose to not buy the $65 premium listing, then you're just throwing your money away because you wont get any views.

You can either build better starter sites with high quality designs and real potential or you can accept the $12 profit and become a Flippa slave. If you're not a real web designer or marketer, it's just not worth it anymore. After the new changes on Flippa my sales and views went up. I love the new changes!

Well in my opion as OP stating Flippa is getting smart, the only solution is now AGE of the domain i..e let the baby (starter) website grow up i..e wait for few months and then put it on Flippa and hopefully then you can make some profit on top of it.

i remembered someone wanted to create a flippa type site a while back name pricell.com on here it started and ended up being dropped, i even offered to buy the site from them never got a response, starting a flippa site is definitely not an easy task. and i totally agree with you in the process of diversifying their business they have neglected the old sellers who build up the so called flippa to where it is if old sellers where not selling sites they would not be recognize, buyers wont be coming back which will put them out of business perhaps a new flippa is the only solution, but frankly speaking its something that will definitely absorb a lot of capital before it can reach anywhere to where flippa is currently at,

Same here. I actually emailed them and asked them what was going on. The layout doesn't even make sense anymore when trying to view sites. I also have to login twice.

I've bought a few of these "starter sites" with dreams they would be big. lol

Did you do anything to make them big, or were you hoping people would magically discover the site? I think many of my customers were hoping for magic, but some I spoke to had a plan for making money with the site.

Starter sites can still be used to make money from Flippa? thanks

I agree with OP, something i dont understand is really wrong with flippa.Too many changes going on. I noticed they droped listing fee to $15 irrespective of what your selling.Listing fee is flat rate now.

Thanks for this info. But i noticed buyers on flippa seem to be attracted tp sites with mega products.I see starter sites with 18,000 products getting more hits.I think buyers are more attracted to stores with large product than those with say 50 products you recommended .Whats your take on this.?

As a buyer, it's really nice to see the little shitling scammer/useless starter sites being weeded out. It has long been annoying to see them selling like hotcakes but looking uglier than the cheapest service here on BHW. Interesting to see the other side, but my recommendation would be to look at it from a buyer's perspective and consider what would bring value to them and then build it.

And now the price is low again, so they'll be back in force.

Do dropshipping website still generate interests? I used to sell some of these websites a few years back and each one sold for at least $100 but after that it just tappered off. My last flippa sale was in Feb. 2019 for a digital agency type website
