How does link building work?

I am talking about the paid service of buying links or creating them by yourself.
If I ever decide to do this kind of service, do I have to provide my main url of my website, or do I have to use a link of a specific post?
Will the backlink/s affect the rank of all my website or of just the link I used?

It depends on the site requirements, some require you to link to content pages. The link mainly helps the direct linked page but provides some benefit to the site as a whole.

Combine doing both, the more valuable the link the more restrictive the link requirements are typically.

I would get a good base of homepage links on all the platforms you can and then start linking to the articles the more links the merrier I think

Copy what your high ranking competitors are doing. Which is probably building brand anchors to the homepage and low percentage matches to the inner pages.

Simple search in google with your query brings tons of articles in every detail you can possible think of. Best bet is google to understand everything in detail.

I don't think these kind of link building strategies can be found on google, that's why I posted this thread on the black hat category but someone moved it here. Go and search on google how to build links and you'll find tons of articles of neil patel & friends telling you to message directly the site owners asking and begging for a link.. .

I would suggest you to link to the page you want to rank, it will definitely improve but also the link juice will be effective to your whole site as well. Make sure you are getting quality links with a natural link placement.
