Is this a BLACKHAT METHOD in SEO? [GOLD] (Help)

Hello comunity!

I am studying a website that has grown sooo fast with just few months and I have discovered that they are doing something little peculiar in SEO.
They are receiving MILLIONS of backlinks from 3-4 domains and all these domains are creating backlinks for other 5 websites from the same owner (my competitor) too.

I checked the internal code of those domains and I saw this code inside:

My competitor is generating millions of backlinks for all its websites....

MY OPINION: He has included inside the code of some websites a piece of code that when someone visits that website, automatically generates a backlink or what?

Can someone help me knowing this? This is GOLD!! Ranked #1 in a HIGHT COMPETITION KEYWORD with just 2-3 months......

If I go to the host website which is generating those backlinks.... I can't find the backlink, I mean, those backlinks are hidden!! You can just find it on the website internal code.... :O

a) hacked websites
b) websites that were maintained by not so honest SEOs

Millions of backlinks? That is a lot of links. Can't your website get banned for having that many?

Which code mate? Those are just a bunch of "<a hrefs>" (links). If the links are not showing in the page they may be hidden by css or javascript.
