I think you want to say VPN, not VPS.
VPN - virtual private network
VPS - virtual private server - which a PC, server, linux machine that is hosted on a server and you access it remotely.
In which case, if you need a VPN, there is no such thing as a residential VPN. Most commercial VPN providers have datacenter servers shared between their clients. So, if you get a VPN for your router, you will end up using data center/ server connections
