How to make Firefox and Windows faster?

You should be able to disable it via Device Manager: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-bluetooth-windows-10, scroll down to 3].

I did that. The "Extension Code" (has a bluetooth icon next to it) still loads and I can see it in Task Manager. And when I switch to details I can see the "BtvStacks.exe" file (has a bluetooth icon next to it).

I actually tried to figure it out, but it's not possible. I even went to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> and clicked to "Change" the Qualcomm Atheros WLAN and Bluetooth Installation Program. But in order to Modify it it's asking me for a CD, which I don't have. Shit, that lap top doesn't even have a CD/DVD drive :D I mean I could probably download the program online and put it on a USB and then go modify it. My logic is I could modify the file and de-select the Bluetooth part of it... or just uninstall and reinstall without the Bluetooth bit.

I also tried going to that Extension Code/Bluetooth folder and deleting it, but it won't let me, says Program is being used by another program. I tried going to file manager and End Task on both Extension Code and on BtvStacks.exe, and then tried deleting again a few times, but always the same problem. It's used by something, I can't figure out what.

And now I went to device manager and literally Uninstalled Bluetooth from the computer (ticked the option "delete driver software from the computer"). Restarted the lap top. When it restarted Windows basically automatically installed some files on my system. Bluetooth was reinstalled. The "Extension Core" and BtvStacks.exe" are still running in file manager. Bastards!

I'm itching to uninstall "Qualcomm Atheros WLAN and Bluetooth Installation Program" completely. I have this lap top connected to the internet via cable at all times, and I think I can do without WLAN. And if for some reason I need wireless I have an external antenna that has its own drivers. Itching.. itching..

Okay I'm uninstalling it. Can't allow it to decide what runs and what doesn't.

Oh yeah baby, that worked. I still have Bluetooth on the lap top, but the software is gone. Now there's no "Extension Core" and BtvStacks.exe" in the file manager anymore consuming resources.

Looove me some radical solutions :D

If you are running out of RAM due to FF then an extra 25Mb will only gain you a tiny amount of time.

The fact is that FF is a memory hog and scripts are only going to make this worse. Running lots of instances is going to exacerbate the situation further.

An extra 100mb likely won't get you any noticeable gain.

You may find that everything is more efficient running a few instances of FF rather than slow the system to a crawl with lots. Try with less and compare results you may be surprised with the results.

That is a very basic laptop. So yeah expect to face issues from time to time in 2018. If I was you, I would have bought an i3 laptop +4 gb ram and swapped the hdd with an ssd.

Your thread is a bit verbose. Get rid of your FF extensions or try Chrome. Otherwise, get a Macbook lol. I'm a CS major and still can't stand dealing with tech issues like that. You bought the most basic laptop on the market - you get what you pay for.
So, you mean macbooks don't have any kind of tech issues like the one OP is having? No freezing, no lagging, and nothing?

It's not verbose. I give as much information to get the best answers possible. Like when I write that I'm not interested in getting a Mac. I write that so that no one tells me something like "get a Macbook lol." Eh...

Get rid of my FF extensions? So you're suggesting that if I get rid of uBlock and of Image Block extensions, and other extensions that prevent Youtube video pages from loading comments/sidebars/descriptions and that make the Youtube videos appear in their most basic formats, you're suggesting if I remove all those FF extensions the browsers will work better? What are you saying exactly?

I can't use Chrome. I use iMacros for and with Firefox only. Using them with Chrome is a can of worms I don't want to open. Thank you.

I bought that lap top years ago, it was all I could afford. It's my old lap top. I said that in my verbose typings :)
Yes, and this reply is verbose too. You must not be in sales, as people don't read replies that long. Go make more money and get a better laptop.

After about 10+ hours though the lap top gets painfully slow, the Firefox profiles start getting script errors and not responding errors, and everything just slows down. I often can't even locate the mouse pointer for a few seconds at this point when I try to use the mouse as the whole lap top gets lagging. At this point what I can do is restart the lap top and turn everything on again and it works normally for another 10+ hours.

What fucks with me is that I can restart the lap top and turn everything on again within 60 seconds and it works good. It's not like I have to shut it down and give it a 10 minute resting period or anything like that.

That's because complicated software tend to have memory leaks (i.e. zombie blocks of memory that the memory garbage collector isn't told to clean up after they're not useful any more). That's not something you can fix, only the software developer can (and these are hard problems to find and fix).

That said, you have to do what you need to do to get a new pc. Go for a desktop so that it's cheaper and upgradeable. With 4GB of RAM you're just trashing your hard drive from the constant memory swapping that's happening on the background.

Have you seen the 30-page long sales letters? They work. Nothing wrong with lots of content if the content is useful.

If you don't want to buy things, maybe automation will help you. If you have to restart the laptop by hand every 10 hrs, then maybe it's good to make it restart by itself every 6-8 hrs, by using a .bat file
I can't help you with the code, but Google will know it.

Funny you mention that, was analyzing offers yesterday. I've seen them, but they are far from common in 2018. VSLs have taken over in full-force. I'd bet less than 20% of high converting offers are still in that long letter format.

Also, dont give OP any ideas, he doesn't need to write 30 pages to tell us why he can't buy a laptop with the capacity to do what he wants, although it'd be great for the SEO of this thread.

Well, i stopped using FF years ago, so i don't really know what's the case with it now. On Chrome i have 2 addons which makes browsing significantly faster. One is the Data Saver, which is natively built-in on mobile, can be turned on and off from the menu, it's available for desktop as an addon and although it's a thingy by Google, as i see it's available for Firefox too: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google_datasaver_for_firefox/, although it doesn't work with Quantum. The other addon called Web Boost, this i can't see for FF unfortunately.

DD shared a DNS hack some time ago, which also speeds up browsing significantly, i cannot get arsed to find the thread, but here it is on the official site: https://1.1.1.1

https://wikihow.com/Adjust-Visual-Effects-in-Windows-8

I just disabled visual effects. Oh yeah, this is fantastic. The change isn't even that big but I can tell it's working better. Some things look a bit more "plain," but who cares. Disabling visual effects, best tip so far! :)

Well of course running fewer instances of FF works better, 100%. But that's not what I wanna do :)

So FF is a memory hog, I agree. But what makes it such a memory hog? Any good tips on what I can edit in Firefox to make it less of a memory hog but still keep it functional?

I use Firefox Portable v56 by the way.

I am in sales. Just made 3 sales while writing this message :)

Jazzc replied to you about that. But even so, this here is not a sales thread, it's a help thread. In fact I want my help threads to be long if the situation calls for it in order to deter any useless replies that waste my time.

Thanks. Yeah I mean, I'll just do what I can with what I've got. I'm aware that I there's only so much I can do, but there are things I can do.

Already since I started this thread I disabled Indexing, I disabled System Restore, I found and disabled 2 programs that were always unnecessarily running in the background and consuming resources, and I disabled Visual Effects. That's on the Windows side. I still didn't get to hacking/editing Firefox itself.

And even though the difference in performance isn't very visible as it's small, and I'll need a few days to really be able to tell, I believe I can already see a small improvement in performance on the lap top :)

If you don't want to buy things, maybe automation will help you. If you have to restart the laptop by hand every 10 hrs, then maybe it's good to make it restart by itself every 6-8 hrs, by using a .bat file
I can't help you with the code, but Google will know it.

Actually... this is a great fucking advice. I'm aware of .bat files and I tried using them once for autorunning some stuff, but now that you put it that way I believe I can see a recipe to setting something up to where the lap top can get automatic restart every 12 hours for example, and upon restart it will turn on the Firefoxes I need on automatically and run the scripts automatically. This will basically ensure I never go to sleep and wake up to a lap top that's unproductive, stuck all over, and beginning for a restart.

Of course, some of the sites I use for botting require a captcha solution to start them, so I won't be able to use those on the autorun, but I can use others that have no captcha and I can see this working, absolutely.

Bro this is awesome. I would have never connected the dots. Amazing, thank you so much. When I'm done hacking Windows and Firefox, I'll probably try to implement this!

Well that it is mostly it ,Turn off effects , delete apps and drivers that run on start up . and i mean for the thing that you are doing you may consider to change the operating system go for windows 7 much less memory used or even more Linux ** the most lightweight one with xls distro . I mean a normal windws 7 pc uses something like 700-800 mb mostly during a boot with all drivers and other programs. meanwhile a linux considering you install the most lightweight distro in here can take something like 100 mb max . if you are able to use your scripts for firexfox on other distro then LINUX Lightweight will make a ton of difference on speed

Thanks. I'm not looking to change operating systems as that would involve a learning curve and I can't spare the time or energy for that now.

However, I could quite easily change my OS to Windows 7. Are you sure Windows 7 would work better/faster than Windows 8.1?

Well atleast for me windows 7 uses less resources then windows 8 or 10 . also if we are speaking about that 32 bit uses less memory then 64 in long term but windows cannot use more then 3 gb with 32 bit

uhhh also something else totaly forgot,,, if you have an usb extra that you dont use . you can make it a part of windows so when the spare memory it is used by firexfox it also uses the memory of usb stick , also you can do that by using your hdd dedicate a part of hdd for more space ram ) Kinda like swap in linux .. But yeah if you are looking for that pc this are the things that you can do effects off programs and drivers that boot in begining off . but the best situation would be linux , i mean regarding the script most of windows scripts work on linux so give it a shot to see if you can make it , test your script on linux live cd and if it works just switch that helps way to much with memory , also dont try if someone tells you try windows xp , since none of the websites of browsers anymore opens on windows xp

Well, I was comparing long copy to short copy, not long copy to video. Surely you don't want the OP to start posting videos of him talking about his laptop :p
