Good Domain Names..... Valuable or ValueLess

So, my other thread disappeared because I listed my actual domain name .

But it inspired me to pot the a discussion from the emerging subtopic of that post.

Good Domain Names.

Are they Valuable or VaueLess?

The domain I just purchased is a phrase that's engrained in American culture for as long as fans exist. And according to google trends, the usage of the phrase has been growing with each new generation joining the internet.

Now 2 o r3 guys sprayed my post with the 'The domain is worth $11' line while the other 10-15 takled of the obvious +factors to the domain name.

We see domains going for $100,000 and BrandBucket.com has Domains getting genuine interests at $1,000,000 .....

My question is. WIth all this activity going on in reality and real-time. Do YOU think a fresh domain with good exactt keywords has value or is it valueless without a business already setup?

If the domain was newly registered by yourself recently there probably is not a great deal of demand for such a domain so the extra value likely is low.

If you build out the domain and brand it well it may be worth a good deal more but it's value likely won't be in the domain itself but the work you put into building out the site and brand.

I think domain name considerations are very important as an initial step for any aspect of online marketing :- branding, SEO / monetising, authority / parking and re-selling.
Good domain name, however, depends on what you intend to use it for. Based on the above, you need to take into consideration the interplay of both the top and secondary level domain of your desired address and if they are suited to your particular objective(s).

As for new domains with high value in themselves, they're difficult to find and probably not worth the time unless you're very talented. I think nothing presented so far is going to compare to com TLD and I honestly don't understand why people bother grouping them with the likes of net, org and io, it's in a league of its own which makes it all the more difficult for most to find anything worthwhile. It's just too saturated.

From my perspective, domain names are like lottery tickets. They might yield good returns or turn nothing. Patience is the key here.

I saw a VERY MAJOR .com go unnoticed about a year ago; the name of a populr tourist destintion. The owner died apparently, I was told later.

It sat a while ............ after release.

Needle in the haystack though for sure but it happens.

I also think the reason it happens is because most people think like you.

I just purchasd NewRapSong.com this morning for $1. I will use it to do some testing with YouTube. I think there's still great domains out here.

Mate I created an expired domain scraper for this very reason so I know where you are coming from on that point but I thought you said newly registered so I was assuming no backlinks or history

Premium domains like Shoes.com will always have value, but more vague "keyword" terms actually pose a bit of a branding problem in today's market. I don't believe the domain is worth much until you build up a valuable site on it.

What would anyone here rather own? A domain appraised at $100,000 (but who knows when you might sell it for that amount), or a domain with a site on it that's consistently earning $3000/month? You can sell a profitable site for $100k any day of the week, but the "good domain name" is hard to shift.

But if you develop either of those two domains properly.... there's a clear greater profit potential.

If you're a person who knows nothing about the internet and running a site/hiring people.. then i'd agree.. get the $3k however.

Yeah that's true. Obviously in that example Famous.com would be the better investment as it would be worth more than $100k, takes no effort to maintain and is likely easy to sell.

Right so what i'm saying.

People make it seem like 'all domains are equal'

and that's BS.

I feel like that's what quite a few people here deliver. Cookie cutter responses instead of intricates of value.

You can usually find a pretty good domain for whatever project you're working on with leandomainsearch and instantdomainsearch. But they rarely have inherent value. NewRapSong.com is an OK domain but I don't think you'd be able to resell it just off how good the domain name is. Bestrapsong.com is available too, as are a ton of other ones with "rapsong" and a modifier. Get rid of the "new" in it and you might have something premium.

Well from experience. Not hypothesis.

I used to run the domains like "newhiphopsongs2013" and many others similiar.

Traffic was amazing actually. When i was really focused on it, drew XX,XXX visitors per month.

And these terms actually generate millions of views on YoUTube for any video that top search too.

I'm not sure what your views are about but no worries. We can agree to disagree.
