Not sure how many signups they have daily, but if this suddenly spikes to hundreds/thousands in a day it would raise alarms. A quick Google search will find this thread... Hey presto, no more self-editing of profiles.

Agreed, was an extreme example, but - depending on the wit/diligence webmaster of the site - unusual spikes wouldn't be hard to pinpoint... If they gave enough of a monkeys, they could make the links NF or add a manual approval process, as they do for their articles. Big up to OP for the share regardless, and make hay while the suns shines and that - but just my 2 cents
