Anyone Else Experiencing A Huge Engagement Drop?

My last ~4 posts have gone pretty viral and now I'm getting like 100 likes per post as opposed to 3k-5k for the viral posts. My main traffic source is engagement groups.

Is this happening for everyone or do I need to change something that I'm doing

So most of the likes are coming from the users in your engagement group? Well you gotta think, engagement groups aren't organic, IG has been actively fighting back against them. I've never used them, so I don't know 100% .. but I would definitely suggest finding a more organic means of promotion/growth for your account as one day this will one day no longer be nice effective means of growth, and it's no telling what long term effects your account might see in the long run.

I agree. Think about it this way:

You have 1000 followers. You have joined an engagement group, which roughly gives you 500 likes per post. That means that the engagement group alone gives you an engagement rate of 50%. Now, because your posts went viral due to the engagement group, you will get additional followers. These followers may be targeted (if you are very lucky). If you are not lucky, you will get followers whose engagement activity is difficult to retain (e.g. due to lack of loyalty and habit patterns). This means, if you suddenly get 50.000 followers, the engagement group will suddenly only give you 1% engagement (vs. the 50% before), and you now rely on non-engaging followers.

Using engagement groups may be great for fast growth, but it is simply not sustainable. You will need to scale the use of engagement groups to keep up with the growth of your page. And even though, you will still lose traction over time (especially due to the fact that Instagram recognises the issue).

I have actually felt an increase in engagement over the past month. I have always grown organically, and even though there was a downturn after the algorithm was implemented, I now start to see the benefit of having grown purely organic.

If you want to grow an account to a million with great engagement, you cannot use Black Hat methods. Sorry to say - it is that simple.

Nicely said, couldn't of outlined it better myself. As I mentioned, I've never used them before as I've heard a lot of positive on the beginning, negative down the road from people about them. But as with any BH method, even outside of social media marketing.. they're only good for short term projects, nothing that you want to still have established years down the line.

What if IG does to the accounts what they've been doing to peoples fake followers, and just decides to ban all accounts they feel were actively partaking in these groups? You would be hit. Better to grow your long term projects the right way, and keep the BH methods for the accounts you don't mind waking up to not being around one morning.

Since the date of this post, there have been about 2 updates to the Instagram app.

Updates have been known to cause negative fluctuations in engagement. Just keep posting, stay consistent and wait it out for a bit. This type of thing happens often.

5% Of posts were seen by your audience but the more engagement you had the more your fans seen your posts until eventually they started charging you to access your whole fan base.
