Currently my channel earns about 0.35$ for every 1000 views. I think this is actually terrible so I would love to know how much you guys are getting so I could compare and see what I'm doing wrong.

Please be honest!

Op what is your niche?

It's an R&B/Chill music channel.
Getting 90k views a month which is also terrible since I used to get 300k each month on this channel.

I now have a new channel with gaming video's with 2 million views each month but it's not monetized yet.
What would be an estimation for $ per 1k views for gaming channels?
The watching time on this channel is actually 8 minutes on average because the videos are 1 hour long.

why does that matter?

Adword users don't target Leisure suit larry... Some games are more interesting for ads and some less, Getting views doesn't mean they target your content. But some do, and thats your $0.35...

Revenue in music niche is pretty low, but it shouldn't be THAT low. I have a music channels where I primarily upload future bass / electronic pop and rpm is somewhere between 0.80 and 0.90 USD.
Ever looked at the demographics report in your analytics? While only 32% of my viewers come from US, UK and Germany, they make up for 75% of revenue. There's huge differences in CPM between countries.

A Gaming channeI (basically all traffic from Germany/Austria/Switzerland) I managed had an rpm of $2 and $2.8 after we joined an mcn if I remember correctly.

In my creator studio it actually says $4.80 CPM, but I get only $35 for 90k views this month. 50% of my viewers are united states, others are mostly europe.
I have no idea how my revenue can be so low. Also what do you mean with a MCN? I never joined one, always thought they rip you off

I think my last music channel was doing over $1 per 1K views, it's suspended now so I can't check what it was exactly. My best niche was doing like $4.5 / 1K views - I've seen some channels that make over $10 CPM. $1-$2 / 1K views is pretty standard. How much you make depends on your niche and length of your videos.

Music isn't the best niche for monetization if you're uploading individual songs as YouTube rewards longer videos with more ads and in turn money. $0.35 per 1K views is on the low end for the niche in general but that might just be your genre. I've seen some music channels with longer videos that make over $3 per 1K views but I think most would be in the $0.5-$1.5 USD range.

You could try increasing your revenue by uploading the occasional mix/compilation that is longer (10+ minutes at least) so you can put more ads on the video. If you have a lot of subscribers you can sell music promotional services (charge a fee to upload someones music video/promote their music in pinned comments of your popular videos/feature their channel/promote links to music related sites in your video descriptions that have affiliate programs/etc. lots you can do to squeeze more money out to your channel).

That's a decent CPM, so I suppose your number of monetised playbacks is very low? Whether an ad is shown depends on a bunch of factors, eg. demographics (whether there are ads available for that audience), if the user has previously been shown ads, adblock,...

Playback location is also quite important. You want your videos to be played on the YouTube watch page. If your video is embedded on a website, it won't make you $$.

Do you have lots of low-view-count-videos? I feel like YouTube prefers to show ads on videos with higher total clicks. My % monetised views is significantly lower on videos that have only a few hundred clicks, compared to the ones that got multiple 1000s.

+1 for @thevideoguy 's suggestion to upload longer videos, it definitely helps with increasing monetised playbacks.

Have you ever done paid uploads? I've been approached a couple times in the past, but have rejected all requests so far. However, I was wondering how you would price such an upload? How much did you charge per 1k estimated views?

Niche and most importantly WHERE the majority of your users reside is whats matter. If you have Finance channel with 90% West Europe/USA users you will make 20x+ with same amount of views than if is Music Channel aimed at Bangladesh..

Guys what do you think health niche CPM will look like?

That was a great game :-)

Depends on the viewers, if it is tier 1 then you get more and also it depends on the niche. Since your video is music expect a low income.
Best payout niche so far is games and toys
