Hello BHWers,

I want to know about cloud storage services for my work...

I want a standalone service not something like Google Drive or OneDrive. I do use GD and OD but i don't trust them with my files.

Security and Privacy matters too much for me. Easy integration with other services (like google drive) is a plus!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!!

A trial package can help to test thier service.

If security is your primary concern, why don't you host your own cloud storage? I suggest using NAS rather than third party services.

Thanks for suggesting.

But hosting my own cloud storage is too much hassle.

That's a great suggestion! Bookmarked!

But company behind CryptoMater (Skymatic) is under 14 eyes judiciary :anyway:
I use https://cryptomator.org/

You're free to choose whichever cloud service you like.

A combination of Sync dot com or Tresorit. In this particular order.
Low budget option would be Boxcryptor for Dropbox, G Drive or One Drive.

What is difference between Tresorit and Sync? Why do i need both?

I've not read their privacy policy yet!

It is not a matter of needing both, but rather a question of do you need both. And in order to answer that question you’ll need to look at what one supplier offers you that the other one doesn’t.

Questions that come to mind are:

What’s your use-case?
I.e. Individual use vs Business use.

What options are you looking for?
i.e. multiple (sub)accounts under one main account for administrative purposes.

What is important to you?
i.e. encrypted expiring shareable links?

Where is the provider located, and could that be of any importance to you?

Things like that.

In the end it could very well be that you’ll only need Sync, Tresorit, something else, or a combination.
And that is something you’ll need to figure out yourself. Only thing we can do is provide you with some options/suggestions.

Thanks for your time !

Sync is US based, So a no-no for me.

1.Individual use
2.no
3.no

Tresorit is switzerland based (nice!) so good for security, datacenters in EU (ireland is okay but netherlands is under 9 eyes) so OK for privacy. Solo plan is affordable. End-to-End encryption is fine. Email integration is fine too!

Whitepaper is nice. "Data handover to government" policy is good though.
Tresorit uses client side encryption so microsoft azure is not a big privacy concern, i think.

Does anyone know about better option than Tresorit?

I have tried them all. The one that I like the most is Dropbox. IMO they are still leaps and bounds above everyone else when it comes to the desktop application and sync files and so on.

Mega.co.nz ? its good i got my files there.

Thanks!

DropBox is USA based. So a no-no because i love privacy (i know 100% privacy is a myth But i don't want my every query logged and seen by someone i can't trust.)
Google Drive
Alphabet is USA based too! I'm using Google Drive for spreadsheets and docs but not for all files!
Mega.co.nz ? its good i got my files there.
They log too much data!

Are you satisfied with Tresorit?

Sync is a bit sucky from time to time and no integration with apps like Word and so on. You still need to open them local and work on them. But as long as you are not doing anything that is a danger to society, it’s fine.

This one is nice too; https://support.tresorit.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003605314-Share-your-content-with-links

Biggest thing for me is the separation of concerns. In particular not having sensitive data in spreadsheets on G Drive and/or One Drive.

One of the reasons that I said goodbye to G’s Chrome is their continued effort in “sharing” data that shouldn’t be shared by default. I.e.: https://restoreprivacy.com/chrome-scanning-files/

Also try and use a dedicated machine for work related stuff and never visit sites with it that you’re trying to let behave in a certain manner. (yeah, I’m one of those tin foil hat ones.)

I've two laptop too!

One have vivaldi browser in it and other one have firefox with blocking every possible footprint but fonts, with a encrypted-DNS, "no-log" VPN.

So you're using tresorit?

I'm trying to leave google's products completely because they collect way too much data for advertising...

That’s an option. Another one is to have separate identities online. That would allow one identity to use Google products, the other MS ones, and perhaps a separate one that is strictly business related and uses proton mail.

As a added service you could create a free proton email account for your clients and tell them that you strongly prefer to use that when doing buisness, hand over the password and tell them to change that one a.s.a.p. and you start to close the inner cirlce.

Sometimes you need to convince them a bit to hop on board, but it’s no use for you to use proton and then send everything to your clients gmail (business) account. Defeats the purpose really.

That's why i don't deal with clients :D.

And i mostly use temp mails + gmx.

Only 8 out of 1 million+ people using a cloud service? :p
