I know the average users hate follow / unfollow users because it made them feels like being used or betrayed, or something similar.

Why do some marketers hate it so much, so much that some of them make videos on Youtube or write blog post on their blog or medium to talk about how bad is follow unfollow bla blah.

Surely we know that there're much more way to grow an Instagram account, such as using the right hashtag with the best chance ranking into top posts, engaging with real people like using Garyvee $1.8 strategy, create an engagement group, post some really good content that might go viral (that takes more time and cost to create, which most small business don't have.), etc.

BUT, we can't deny the exposure given from follow / unfollow is still very effective, because people don't follw you back just because you follow them, people follow you because you got their attention and they like your content too. (At least most do, if not the follow back ratio will be shitty anyway.)

They are against f/u since they've different methods to promote and majority stick to the traditional f/u. Unless they make it appear like a real shitty method, who's going to buy their method?

Damn now it clears up my mind why they bother so much to spend a video talking about the bad of f/uf method, almost all these video promote their "instagram mastery class" at the end.

I worked with large companies to promote in social networks. They do not tell anyone that they are advancing in gray. If this is noticed, then it will be publicly told.

Hey, there's no need of hating actually, everything seems ok for them, just let the market flow.

Probably because of that first line you wrote, they feel like they're being fooled and the person who followed/unfollowed is fake/shady. Which is, kinda, true.

They don't hate it for no reason. F/U messes up the engagement rate and most of these marketers are building legit pages not CPA pages.
