You might want to get a few profile or news articles about yourself printed in the local paper, or an online equivalent. Maybe complete a Linkedin profile as well. This will provide the reference content (and footnotes) you need to establish you are newsworthy or influential enough to have a wikipedia entry. Then you or a writer who is already trusted at that site can write at least a "stub" entry that lays out your essentials.

If you make a page about yourself, you have to make it neutral, due to Wikipedia's "neutral point of view" policy. You also have to provide reliable links and verifiable sources. Furthermore, people will be able to add to your page. Thay can add good or bad things. However, there is no way to defend yourself against it.
