Huge fire in Greece

What caused the fire?

There is no official statement yet.
Here in Greece, people say that it was an arson. The last years many people were debating about the "installation" of a Bauxite mine and an aeolic park in this area.

But yesterday the wind was blowing very fast and there were high temperatures in this area. It could cause the fire. (Maybe from electric wires)

Wow! That is scary, keeping you in my thoughts!

Scary how something like a fire can spread so quickly and cause that much damage. 50 deaths is heartbreaking

News confirmed more than 60 deaths,170 injuries and 1200 houses burnt down

EU sent most of its firefighting power to Sweden.
Spain and Turkey(Not EU but yes) responded to Greece
Wth Spain is on the other side of the mediterrane sea. Also wildfires in The Netherlands (yours was arson, confirmed?)
Meanwhile @BassTrackerBoats is getting flooded( or still safe in your cabin?)

Yeah I know that about Spain but I heard on the news that they offered to send some airplanes.

No it's not confirmed that it was arson but it seems like it was. Around 4-5 wildfires started almost simultaneously at different places

Sad. This one seems particularly bad.

I remember being on Zakythos and a fire broke out also. Thought was that some asshole probably threw a cigarette butt in the gras and that caught fire eventually, burning down a large area.

Hope they get it under control soon and my heart goes out to all the victims and their relatives.

It is very bad. It's the second biggest destruction in Greece after almost 70 years (by casualties)
The fire keeps burning to other destinations where firefighters cant go on foot and airplanes/helis cant fly at night.

They are waiting for the morning to start the operation again.

Sad. Real sad. Let’s hope it’s not arson, that would be really sad.

This photo is incredible: https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/galleries/x701/386510.jpg

Something similar occurred near my hometown a couple years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Great_Smoky_Mountains_wildfires.

It turned out it was arson. Fucked up quite a few hiking trains we used to frequent and caused an insane amount of damage. The arsonists were minors, and through some political bullshit their charges were dropped.

Best of luck to all in Greece. Drop another thought and prayer in the bucket from some dude in Florida.
