Let's say you know of a very famous person and you know the .net extension is available, do they still rank well and is there still a resale value?

In this days I saw
.dog
.Kim
. Space

Do you think those ones will rank better thank net org com? All depends on the niche

If you have a niche about dogs , ofcourse your site will rank better for .dog , or poker.casino ..

But the most common and "good looking " one is .com

In my online reputation management experiences, I've had many occasions where I've purchased the .com, .net, and .org of someone's name. I've then populated these sites with content and promoted them simultaneously. So this has made for a solid case study into how performance of TLDs affects ranking.

From what I have seen, there are very few instances were one specific TLD of the three above did better than the others.

Now I will say that I have stopped purchasing .info, .co, and .us TLDs for clients, and have instead started buying firstname-lastname .com, .org and .net (with a hyphen), as they have ranked better for me.

I'll tag in @BHopkins to see if he's noticed anything similar.

Interesting.

You see, this is what I think - I don't think it should matter.

Google should be clever enough by now to not give a toss about the extension.

If you think about it - why should it matter? It's about the content of the website, not what it ends with. But of course Google are still a few years behind what they really should be, in my opinion, so we still have to consider these things.

If your site is full of interesting, engaging content it shouldn't matter if your domain ends in .com or .offyoupop

But in 2018 it still does. Come on Google, you're miles behind.

I'd say .net, .org, and .com hold the most value. New businesses often register these 3

I would rate them on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most likely to rank.

.com - 10
.net - 4
.org - 4
everything else - 1

I always buy the .com, .net, and .org if the EMD's are available and I don't buy anything else unless the client specifically cares about that TLD.

What's your experience with hyphens in url ? com, net, org. For example, there are easy to rank sites in google TOP 10, without keyword in domain name, but i am gonna try to rank with my-keyword.example instead of keyboard.example ?

Exactly! Also after googles Update in 2012, EDM'S arent as powerful as they used to be.

I have had some .nets and .orgs where I thought that they would be worth a couple of thousand bucks, but one thing that I have learned is: .com beats everything.

So if you can always try to go with a .com which is as short as possible.

Depending on the country you live in, a local .com extension can be more/equally powerful as a normal .com
True that, but I was talking about the global market. But you're right, a powerful .de in germany could beat the equal .com

But also worth to mention, that more people start to use local words with .com extensions

On a global level, yes, the .com would be in theory the most powerful, but it all depends on the seo work you have done on that domain. I have seen .net and .org outrank .com on local and global scale.
I always advice friends buying the local .com and regular .com for their business just to be sure (and even the .net and .org if they have the money). Even if they don't do business globally it's always good to protect your investment!

Absolutely true

IMO, .net is best after .com, And .net has good resale value.
Ranking? Doesn't matter much. I think very tld has almost same value in Google.
