Hello all,

I was a computer science college student in 1997. In my spare time, I made a web site about a band I liked and became obsessed with making it #1 on every search engine. As a result, I learned how to manipulate early search engine algorithms. They were pretty brain dead by today's standards. I was very successful in making my web site #1 across the board and decided to see if I could make money from this skill. There were only two things to make money from in 1997, gambling and porn. I chose porn. There was a search engine called Infoseek that allowed instant indexing. You submitted your URL and were immediately indexed. In order to rank #1 for any keyword you wanted, you simply needed to have the correct HTML template. There was a newspaper article about the 1993 Super Bowl. You just needed to scrape the article and replace the words "Super Bowl" with your keyword, submit the URL, then overwrite the web page with a page full of porn banners. Infoseek would ban you after a few hours, but during that time you would get an unholy amount of traffic to the tune of several hundred dollars per hour. I was hooked. After I got my first check, I quit my job as a pizza delivery driver and dropped out of college. It's been of roller coaster ride of success and failure since then.

I've been lurking around these boards for many years and decided to join to exchange ideas with other seasoned veterans. I'm an expert on Google, Bing and Pinterest. I dabble with Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and have lots to learn about them.

Very interesting. You're an OG. Do you also do PPC traffic on Bing and Google? If so do you have any tips for finding cheap / relevant keywords ?

bit of friendly advice, never call yourself an expert on here, you'll be ripped to shreds :) the forum just loves a self proclaimed GURU

I remember that search engine! Altavista too!

I think you should make a thread about what works on Google these days, if you want to declare guruship. Nobody is really interested about the past, apart from cryptotards and there "what if" threads about Bitcoin.

So where were you between 1997 and 2017 ? Yes its been 20 years, things are changed a lot. I started coding in 2005, these times forums were so popular. especially vbulletin. After facebook comes to the stage, things are changed. around 2008-2012 I played with adsense with auto blogs (pdf search engines hahh) some days I even did $1000. Then 2012-2014 I have tried cpa, did also quite well by email submit and dating offers. After 2015 till now, things are changed a lot and now money is on mobile, now also killing it :)
