Changes coming to Google Chrome,Whats your out take on this?

Big changes are coming to Google Chrome in July.
The browser will begin blocking all urls that do not use an SSL security certificate, and instead
show users a warning message. This would obviously decrease the number of
conversions you would get on a campaign.
I would like to hear from others what you think about this and what if anything you plan to do.
I found a ssl service for $5 a year, but my server doesnt allow 3rd party. So it looks like I'll have to dish out $40 a year. Kinda sucks.
I also understand there is a setting were users can turn off SSL in the browser.

Yup it sure does suck a big one. 67% of my traffic come from a crome browser.

Most hosting I have used that's paid almost always supports let's encrypt, I'd say hit up the host and ask for let's encrypt, if they say no, move to one that does.

I think web hosts have their own alternatives. bluehost has free ssl for shared hosting

Chrome won't "block" sites without SSL. It'll just have a "not secure" warning in the top bar (or am I wrong?) - which I don't think will cause as big of a problem as some people think. We'll have to wait and see.

It sounds like shit right now, but there is always workarounds that come out. As joseph said we will have to wait.

if your host dosen't have lets-encrypt you can use this site to make one for free fairly quickly https://zerossl.com/

This is good news for me because i always keep SSL up. Some competitors don't and i will get a traffic boost

Why would you dish out $40 a year? Change your host. Get lets-encrypt.

If you want a branded SSL - Namecheap has Comodo for $10

If you have cPanel - WHM now comes with the something called AutoSSL.

No. I dont want to pay $40 a year. I was just wanting to hear what others thought about this chrome crap and how it might effect them ect.

You can just use Cloudflare free ssl, way easier to setup than Lets Encrypt.

I've been approaching businesses with insecure self-built sites, showing them the error page in Chrome beta, and offering them SSL for a fairly small monthly fee (I'm using LetsEncrypt so my costs are trivial). Once they're hooked, it's easy to upsell to hosting, redesign, etc.
