Changes coming to Google Chrome,Whats your out take on this?

Post source of claim about Chrome updates. If that were real it would be major news that people would have heard about more than two days before July.

Edit
This is probably the source:

This is an image of what the update will look like, according to Search Engine Land.

Fairly minor change.

That image is of an invalid cert error. Website claims to have an SSL cert but it isn't set up correctly (or is possibly malicious, but usually a real cert set up incorrectly). No cert should still show fine.

well, you can easily migrate to HTTPs and it is free too.

I've just started using this. Great guide. Free SSL from Cloudflare

Really? Can you post the source for that - I would've thought a move like that would cause a huge disruption since so many sites don't have SSL.

EDIT: It won't be a fullscreen warning for non-SSL sites. It's going to be for shitty SSL integration.

I hope so. We will just have to wait and see. A quick google search shows a full page warning . I also see firefox trending towards this.

I got info about this in october 2017, but didnt pay it much mind. Got this email today from my manager at MaxBounty. made me start thinking....thats bad.

"I wanted to let you know that big changes are coming to Google Chrome in July that
could have a negative impact on your affiliate marketing efforts. The browser will
begin blocking all urls that do not use an SSL security certificate, and instead
show users a warning message. This would obviously decrease the number of
conversions you would get on a campaign, so MaxBounty has taken the steps of not
only making all of our own domains secured, but we are also working diligently with
our advertising partners, to make sure they do the same, so that YOU are not
impacted by this. "

This is one reason I started this thread. Plus I'm not to up on SSL and wanted to hear from others about this. I have no clue as to how this is going to work or effect us.

Based on the other articles I found after doing some searches, it seems like that message from MaxBounty is a misunderstanding of the change. Seems like only a change to the URL bar.

If Chrome blocked all http (non-https) requests, it would be a huge interruption to their browser being able to function correctly, not to mention a huge inconvenience the rest of the Internet (both users and website owners).

Yesterday, Hostgator mailed that they are offering FREE-SSL to their customers. What they didn't mention was that the offer was only for the already expensive business account.
Why don't you use cloudflare's Flexible SSL that shows https on the browser. This is the same as BHW is currently showing me. It comes with an (i) - that the connection is not fully secure.

I would wait and see what happens.. Can't really bother with adding ssl to all of my sites.. Hopefully, it will not be a full screen warning.

I would like to hear from others what you think about this and what if anything you plan to do.
I found a ssl service for $5 a year, but my server doesnt allow 3rd party. So it looks like I'll have to dish out $40 a year. Kinda sucks.
I also understand there is a setting were users can turn off SSL in the browser.
Most hosts offer shared SSL now. Also, CPANEL now has a plugin for letsencrypt and so does Plesk so you can get one yourself there as well. I'd say a good move, cost of SSL is really $0 or so low to appear more trustworthy even if you just run a AFF site.

I took Daddykins suggestion and setup Cloudflare on one of my wp sites. I do recommend them. Very easy and painless to setup and free.
One thing to take note of is if you have any images hotlinked on a page it will not show as secure. I worked around this by adding The s to the image link.
That only works if the site has a ssl cert.
Now I'm wondering how this will help my rankings on google now I have a squeaky-clean green lock on my site.
SEO questions come to mind .

This change will be very good for me. Using https was always something very basic to me.

cloudflare offers free ssl btw

This change has been coming for years with plenty of warnings, if you've still not moved over to https then its on you

I have seen the warning signs. To many to list. it just goes much deeper than ones own sites. how would this effect backlinks and such?

Use another browser. It’s not like Google’s Chrome is the best there is atm. Maybe a couple of years ago, but not anymore.
