Suppose I want to create an affiliate website and my niche is bodybuilding.

I search on Google "best way to do pull-ups" to check my competitors and I see these big authority websites like bodybuilding.com or stronglifts.com etc. They have well-written articles. However, my concern is all the video guides they do and the original pics they feature. They don't use stock images.

Instead, they use real male models and take their pics inside real gyms. All of this makes their site look more legit to their target audience, right? I can rewrite articles and maybe even improve their quality but I simply don't have the resources to do unique video guides or feature original photos.

Of course, I can embed their videos because it will be useful to my visitors but that poses another problem. My target audience will realize my website is not good enough.

In another scenario, suppose I search 'Top 10 headphones under $300'. Again, big sites like 'The Wirecutter' pop up. They have the resources to actually buy all the headphones they are reviewing. So, this also lets them conduct awesome video reviews. Something I can't do :/

This is just an example. I know these are very competitive niches but even in less competitive niches, I find my competitors doing video reviews or using pictures they took themselves.

What are your views on this matter? Have you ever faced a similar situation when doing a review on your website?

If you want to be the top dog with some high comp keywords, either be prepared to slave your life away on backlinking or hand over your savings. Or whore your time out to social media, if you're not after organic traffic (I don't mess with social traffic... GASP!).

You're going about it wrong, otherwise; especially if you want low/no investment. Go after the low hanging fruit, lots of content, become an authority. As your site grows in size, content, trust, and readers, it will slowly continue to pick up thousands of keywords and improve in rank for bigger ones.

I don't invest a DIME into my websites other than domains and hosting, and I only seek out a few links that I build by hand. I also have my keyword research down to an art, and I'm an incredible content creator. Instead of trying to rank for "best way to do pull ups", you need to find some originality and creativity, then back it with some keyword research. For example:
*Best way to do pull ups with a twisted ankle
*Best way to do pull ups while drunk
*How to do pull ups while walking my dog
(People search for some odd shit, just so you know!)

If you can't tap your creativity now, you should figure It out real fast and in a hurry if you want to stumble upon success.

Just 3 days ago I posted a new article on one of my sites and it has already ranked and brought in 75 visitors. 50 today alone. 100% ORGANIC from Big G herself. Google shows real, well-written, clean, reader-friendly sites a lot of love.

I don't fool with buying links/packages, I'm building websites that'll last and stand up strong against future updates. If I can't build them myself, I probably can't trust them.

I'm working on two newer websites simultaneously at this moment, and don't be afraid to do so. You need regular content, and going back and forth keeps the subject matter fresh, thus increasing your dedication as a whole.

I think this is a very good question that was answered by Moz whiteboard Friday
Another good answer by google webmasters here:

If you want to compete with big authority sites in your niche, check and analyze what content they post on their website. And from which websites they are building their backlinks.

you have to see your competitors site, use different strategies, do more content, SEO , traffic and more
