Hello BHW,

Some days back I was suggested to use proxy service from "XYZ Proxies", so I thought that I should check prices and all, so I did what a normal user would do, I opened new tab and searched about this service from my laptop and then from top 1st or 2nd link from google, I landed on the website. I gathered information and then started reading BHW threads again.

Next day, I opened my Instgram account from my mobile phone and I was quite shocked to see the same website's ad shown by iInstagram. (I used same wifi on my phone and laptop)
I didn't search from my phone, I searched them from my laptop and on Google not on instagram.
This made me think what instagram is extracting and how.
I had facebook logged in my browser as well.

I read somewhere that these networks use Session Cookies, Browser Cookies and IP addresses to get user's data and use it for advertisement.

I am very much interested if someone can explain what happens and how it happens, What data is extracted by instagram and facebook normally, and what else they can extract from us by using which means.

Regards

I also wonder how the fuck instagram knows I am a musician.
Like seriously, I was planning to buy Alesis VX49, and the ads changed to that, or its brother keyboard (Akai Advance), and as soon as I buy that, the ads disappear!

Wtf

Look at this my dear friend, there are much more things that they extract than we may think.

They are using info from facebook. They collect info from your browser as well. Cookies man,

The "xyz proxies" website was using facebook pixel. Instagram advertising is managed through facebook ads. Facebook pixel helps in knowing who visited what. The method is Retargeting.

You guys are right, what I want to know is what are they collecting from a normal IP or a user so that I can add those factors to my instagram accounts.
I think if a an instagram account is not providing them these infos, this can be alarming and suspicious and hence can increase bans/blocks.

Thats nothing check this out:

As I am believer of testing things, It was quite shocking for me also, so I tried doing the exact same but I got nothing like that so I am not sure why it worked for the guy in the video not for me. Thanks for sharing, surely this is possible but not happening to me. (:

age, gender, location, interest, pages you liked, hobbies, education, etc in case of facebook.
In case of instagram its the type of pages you liked and your gender.

In case of remarketing, anyhow you don't need too much information since your behaviour is already saved in facebook pixel.
