So I purchased a shoutout from some 500k page, however even though I did do some due diligence it turns out they were fake followers also the page was being spammed by other big pages, like a sort of engagement group. The thing is I had a winning ad which performed perfectly in other same niche pages with about 300k followers, getting over 1k visitors to my site, this one however I did not get even a single visitor, I feel this person scammed me with real looking followers and activity, btw the actual shoutout post got about 2k likes (fake likes) and 50 fake comments. How do you guys think I should go about this? Could I actually get a refund from a paypal dispute? thanks

The moment you say it's a virtual payment shit goes out the pan, did you pay via Friends & Family? I'd put fraud down personally as that's the best chance.

Yes you should definitely be careful with such big pages. Most of them are filled with fake followers and that's how they scam people who are not familiar with this scheme. It's absolutely unethical, but you can't do nothing about it.

About the paypal dispute, I have no clue but it's worth a try.

I paid as product & service

I got scammed £60 for a shoutout on IG once, paypal gave me the money back with no questions.

Fantastic stuff! Paypal is owned by eBay, and all payments under product & services are covered with buyer protection! Claim it was not as described and they'll refund. :)

Yeah, I thought it's the other way round though. If its virtual, seller has pretty much no protection.

But did they actually do the shoutout? or they didnt? what did you tell paypal?

It used to be like this.

I've been taken to court by paypal and fuckers got nothing

But i have read here that when its a virtual payment in chargeback buyer has more protection, but in a dispute is the seller who has the protection is this correct?

Yes, that's correct. I only advise a charge back if it's friends & family, and no chance of a refund.
If you dispute it and say the service was not as described, and are heavy on insisting they were scamming, you are likely to receive your money back via Paypal's buyer protection terms and conditions that all sellers have to abide by.

Hope I helped man :)

what did the advert say that sold you your shououts .

if they did not state that fake hit ,where being used then you can get your money back .

your need everdence contacting the suplier , where you have tried to solve the problam your self .

if your not satisfied with there service you then can show proof to paypal you tried to get help from the service, but your not satisfied .

your then open a dispute under " item as not discribed"

upload all the convo to paypal and wait for a responce .

can take time 3 weeks or 120 days .

if the advert of shououts say "" no refunds "" you got no chance getting any money back , as it your responcceabilty weighing up the odds if the service worth using .

it wasnt an advert, he contacted me via instagram DM

it wasnt an advert, he contacted me via instagram DM
so you need to contact him , and ask what the fake views about and the traffic is shite .

get a responce , then use paypal to fight your case .

paypal might say , he dm you , you trusted him so it your problam.

but if you do dispute the problam , can lead to winning or losing in this case , and getting his account flagged .

this will all come down to his paypal account being good or bad .

if he done this before your win but if he got 100% good paypal account your loose.

paypal does go with the buyer 99% of the time, unless there everdence (( email ect ect of bad/good service.

best way to resolve directly with the seller.

I wonder if people can take advantage of this -> someone bought something, works perfectly fine -> ' it was not as described ' -> refund..

My question is, should I just open a dispute that I did not recieve anything? or should I open it about I didnt recieve as described?

I'd put it as not received, however both. Not as described is true.

I think If you feel he/she scammed you. go ahead and open a dispute.
I had similar experience once sadly I paid with crypto because of a discount. I would never do that mistake again. Got somewhere around 4k likes every single like was fake.

That's not correct. Paypal will always favor the buyer when it comes to virtual items/services
