Hi all, I am relatively new to this thing and I wanted to ask your comments about growing a personal Instagram account.

Been reading posts here at BHW and has been an exciting experience to me so far. However, as I noticed, most people here grow IG accounts for business purposes. I am not sure if the same process will work the same for a personal account?

So far, I've tried botting (ig follow/unfollow). My niche is majority of travel. But I always don't have the luxury of time and money, so sometimes I also post about nightlife, concerts, and food. I also like iphonenography, and recently started shooting Insta Stories "vlogs".

I managed to grow my account from 1.3k to now 2.8k in my 3-4 months of botting. I bought few hundred fake followers because I thought it would increase my "legibility" when people decide to check my profile and follow it.

I spend time to create quality content - from taking the photo/video, to adding filters, and making sure my grid looks "nice".

I think my progress wasn't that fast, but what do you think of it?

Next step, I want to try Instagram engagement groups, and shoutouts. Do you think this will also work for personal instagram account?

Hope you guys can shed some feedbacks. Thanks so much in advance!

I think it's not bad at all. Quality over quantity imo. Keep going and groups are a great way to engage :)

Thank you, that’s what I also think.

Just wondering, where can I start joining engagement groups?

Keep botting and maybe try shoutouts?
Engagement groups helped me gain likes in the past but not more followers (at your follower range I mean).
But you can try that as well! A combination of the three methods would be the best for a personal account I think.

You can join some Facebook groups to help IG growth, they usually have engagement groups organized. Also here on the forums you can find some engagement groups, like for Telegram and such, depending on your followers and niche!

I can tell you that's a pretty good growth

I went from 0 to 11k in 7 months, you are doing good to be honest!

Thank you! I should look for one and hopefully they will accept me even at 2.8K. Otherwise, I guess I’ll just continue at botting.

Thanks! 10K is my target at the moment... 11K in 7mos is such a milestone imo! Is this also your personal account? Are you also in the same niche as I am?

You want to grow a personal account?

Stop buying followers, likes and comments. These will F with your account and Instagram's new algorithm that measures engagement.
Remember, the fake followers will not like your posts. Buying likes does nothing for Instagram's engagement since these are not coming from those that follow you.

Start by blocking all the fake accounts.
Then, engage with your real followers, like, comment, rinse and repeat.

Now, if you have a model's body, then you can show tits, ass, and crotch shots to get more teenager followers that will do no more than like and drool over you. In the end, these will not buy anything, since they have little or no money.

So, if you don't have a model's body go back to my rinse and repeat advise.

Thanks for the tip! Didn’t know about the new IG algorithm about engagements. I remember reading a post before that fake likes within few minutes after posting will boost the possibility of being featured in “top posts”.

Will keep this in mind! Cheers!

Those were the good old days. Maybe 1 year back?
Same with Power Likes. Up to 1 year ago, a power like came from a 100K+ account. With the economy as it is (Instagram's Algo), now a power like comes from a 20K+ bot account.
And a caveat "buy power likes, but we don't guarantee that you'll get anything out of it, make sure you post top HQ babe shots with open legs for better engagement, etc."

If it's a personal account, your growth strategies will be different than your typical niche page. I have never seen a personal page have any substantial growth from like4like or engagement groups.

You have two options: 1) Buy a ton of shoutouts from big pages using album posts. 2) Create viral content. Something that makes people talk. To give you an idea, I knew a girl who went dancing and playing in the snow in her bikini. She gained 15k in one day from that video, lol.

It was indeed easier to work it around before.

By the way, can you recommend a tool to get rid of ghost followers/bot followers?

That is a crazy idea. There’s this saying “do for likes”. Lol.

Thanks for your feedback!

UPDATE:

4 months later, I am at 3.4K. I blocked all the fake followers I’ve purchased before.

Still targeting same niche and happy that I am still growing...

I am not posting too much stuff tho, which is probably why a slower growth.

Good to hear @DKM I know how tough it is to build up a personal insta - especially now.

Personally, I didn't see much progress from shoutouts - did you try those?

Are you also doing any botting?

Or are you building based purely on engaging more?

I've found tons of Facebook groups for engagement and the members are of all different levels of followers. I'm sure you'll find something helpful. I haven't actually participated in any of these myself, but the groups a pretty big. One group, for example, is "Instagram Growth" and it has >24k members.
