On investigation, some of the domains had been dropped in previous years but the latest transfer was via auctioned domains. Domain metrics were good, they met the seller's stated averages and the RD's were actually quite a bit higher than promised.

Yes, RDs will often be higher than promised (as will other metrics) - we always try to overdeliver whenever possible.
