Website lost ranking after posting new article

Hey.

I have one CPA website and one Amazon website. Both are over 2 years and stop updating them a while back. In fear that Google will throw them at the bottom, I decided to update the website with one new blog post that was ranking #1 (the CPA website). I published an article and after a few days site has gone to #4. It's been 10 days and the website is on the same spot.

The Amazon website, I switched the year in the article. I removed 2017 and placed 2018 in the article. Few days have passed and the site lost rankings #1 to #5. And please note that I did NOT change the URL of the page that was ranking.

What the hell did I do wrong here? Nothing else has changed other than that. Should I remove the post on the CPA website and switch back the year on the Amazon website?

Leave it. It should bounce back after a while. Google's new update has just affected a lot of sites recently.

Must be a dance but am no expert. Leave that content there and keep posting more articles slowly and see if it improves. It's difficult to see changes every day so be patient and check after a week or two.

Any reasons why I should remove it? Just asking for some solid facts.

That happens to me a lot of the time when I publish new articles it drops down for a bit and then it comes back up again, the fact you have not dropped back to page never land says its just a dance so hang in there, coupled with the fact Google is still updating and all over the place at the moment (adult niche). It's a massive pain in the butt and puts you off adding new articles sometimes but what can we do?

I would think that if you leave it, it should soon bounce back. With the updates it probably had something to do with it. Give it some more time and see what it does. Hope it works out for you.

Doubt it since they were #1 for a long time.

I didn't track it, but as far as I remember the competitors, they all just jumped 1 place up because my websites dropped down.

I would think that if you leave it, it should soon bounce back. With the updates it probably had something to do with it. Give it some more time and see what it does. Hope it works out for you.

possibly you have nearly no link juice on site so each new post dilutes it so much that you lose rankings

There’s a google shuffling around March 14, I think that’s why.

After I post in my Amazon websites (3 months no post) and my ranking starts dropping last week. I think this is from the last update...

I'd give it some time, attempts to fix stuff that probably isn't broken often results in more harm than good. As far as the first site is concerned, could be an re-evaluation, usually takes a few weeks. A little unusual if you just added one article, but can happen. The really strange thing is your second example, just switching the year in content is a really minor change that shouldn't result in ranking changes. Maybe really a coincidence. We are doing this kind of change for loads of sites, sometimes yearly, sometimes monthly and they never affected rankings (for terms without the year/month in them) in any way, even when changing year/month in the site/page title and not just the content.

Anyway, waiting a bit is certainly the best advice.

Yeah, I was thinking of adding more links if the ranking don't come back soon.

Could be anything. I don't wanna wait it out since all the projects now go so damn slow. But I guess that's my best option for now.

Weird things can always happen and you cant be sure why, i see many authority sites use year or date, google after all love updated content right. I did this too once on affiliate site and my article lost ranking after changing 2016 to 2017. Now i try to publish articles and guides without any year or any date that i would need to change later..

Usual case, don't panic all will be fine.
It's allmost about like this. I post new articles for my blog every week and every time it goes like this.

Nobody here can say anything for sure. Doing massive content updates to pages that are already ranking #1 is generally a very dumb practice, however. So if nothing else you learned a lesson.

There has a been a lot of up and downs with the googles new update.
Try adding a high quality new article made for 2018.
And some hq articles slowly to see the change gradually
