Massive content updates? I changed the damn year from 2017 to 2018. Literally, one character and I drop from 1st to 5th. I don't think that's massive content update, but sure as hell is massive drop.

I'd thought you uploaded an entirely new article. Interesting... perhaps that is the problem then? Usually when people here "update" an article to the new year they add a new paragraph (removing nothing, just adding a little bit to make the article longer) saying something like "update" and then change the year. Maybe you JUST changing the year made Google think you weren't adding any value?
