What It's like living in Pakistan? [Answer]

My opinion is nearly all countries and governments are crap, that is why you need to become wealthy enough you can live where you want and lead the life you want.

It would be interesting to see how much money would be required to buy land and be able to negotiate to have it become an autonomous republic.

I did not doubt that at all :)

What I said is that "GDP PPP" isn't the metric to use if you want to see if a country is rich. The correct metric to answer that question is "GDP PPP per capita". The "per capita" part is Latin for "for each person".

Why is it so? Because without the "per capita" part, the number of citizens in each country is what matters a lot. To give you an example, Switzerland is 40 on "GDP PPP" but 9th on "GDP PPP per capita". This (roughly) means that the average Swiss is wealthier than the average citizen of almost any other country - but because Switzerland is a small country it only gets to 40 on the other ladder. In contrast for example, Nigeria is in the 24th place in "GDP PPP" but only in 119 in "GDP PPP per capita". That (roughly) means that the average Swiss is 12 times wealthier than the average person in Nigeria (based on their respective per capita incomes).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

That's exactly correct. What's the point of having 1 billion dollars, if you have a family of 1 billion people. Sure it sounds like great deal of money and more than your friend who have 1 million dollar but he's alone, That's why per capita part is very important.

1. Buying implies that it has previous ownership, and ownership papers are based on the property being in location, which infact is in city and that's in a country. So you can't buy a land inside a country and try to get it autonomous.
2. There's little to no unclaimed land left on earth
3. You can make your own island and stuff like that, declare yourself a country or autonomous republicc but it won't do you any good since you will need to be legitimize, and be recognize as a country and the chances of that happening are VERY slim..

What's the fastest internet you can get in your area and roughly how much is it in USD?

If the land is not being used for anything, there is no population on the land and the land is not too much of the host country you probably could get autonomy with the right offer. There are some countries that would be willing to listen if someone offered to pay off their national debt in exchange. Its unlikely since it would require such a large sum of money that has not been reached yet. Bill Gates was the only person that had a shot so far of doing it but he has focused on donating to charity a lot since 1996.

Even if for some reason, a country decides to sell of its land, it will most likely be done to another country, not an individual, like USA Bought Alaska from Russia, and since it's a thread about Pakistan, Pakistan actually bought Gawadar from Oman in 1958 for a $1.1 USD (adjusted for inflation).

P.S Gates isn't the richest person around, Check Jeff Bezos worth.

30MBPS unlimited bandwitdth = $42

It's not from cheapest ISP around but it's the best one

Gates has been selling shares in MSFT since the early 90's, if he had decided not to sell any shares his net worth from MSFT alone would be a little more than $300 billion, and he would be making roughly $5 billion a year in dividends. In 2003 when MSFT paid out that large dividend it would have been a payment of over $10 billion to Gates had he kept all his shares.

He is the only one that with the right decisions could have been able to Ukraine(only country I think could be negotiated with right now) and offer then $75 billion for autonomy for 500,000 acres of land.

Doesn't matter though what he could or would've done, I'm merely saying he's not the pinnacle of richness now. And I hate to be going in debate but Ukraine is a very very bad example. It can never happen and that too by an America. The tension in that region is insanely high and Russia wouldn't take the idea very pleasantly (I know Ukraine and Russia are different but I hope you get the point)

I'm talking about what kind of wealth is needed to execute such a deal. Unless Amazon starts reaching 2.5% to 3% Dividend Yield soon, Bezos would not be able to reach a wealth level that can execute that kind of deal.

Back on topic ----

I was reading about Karachi last night, its really starting to boom since 2013. I'd love to visit it one day.

Oh yes it is. The ground situation of Karachi have improved very much. It's majorly due to a large scale operation done by paramilitary forces starting 2013 I guess that resulting in arrests of political militias. It was very soothing to watch that operation on TV.

I envy of your internet. Here in philippines, you pay $25 for a 3mbps non-consistent internet connection. Damn ph monopoly.

What's the tax rate in Pakistan? In my country (India) it sucks.. can go upto 30% on moderate income. Also, how are the non muslims treated over there (no offense meant. Just asked out of curiosity)?

Haha your tax sux? In my country you pay at least 35% and if you earn more then $40k/year you pay 50-55% tax... But school is free (even get paid to attend) and healt care is "free":)

F.... i hope your road is clean :O

I met a really beautiful, sexy Blonde girl who was English in the army and stationed out there.

She said she loved it. Said that people (men) were very respectful to her.

Her face said she was talking the truth.

OK, she WAS in the Army, but as an assistant so was no scary super bitch.

I could come up with a Billion things wrong with the UK right now.

I can't recall any British and US troops deployment in Pakistan. Perhaps it she was part of some sort of diplomatic team.

I am simply surprised at the perception the international world has of Pakistanis. When I am away from Pakistan, I am only shown bearded men and women in burqas. Even entertainment such as Homeland focuses on the dark side of Pakistan, never shedding light on the greater good. On the contrary, when I am in Pakistan, I am only shown the vibrant Cherry Blossom festivals of Washington, DC or the ferocious life of Times Square. Never do I see reports of the gun violence, police brutality or Islamophobic campaigns in America.

Well said.

Dude it's our hobby to do NATO's supplied blockade every now and then (that goes to Afghanistan). I may be wrong but there is no formal stationing of any foreign army in Pakistan. Diplomatic attache is other thing or embassy security but no other thing.

I am not saying that you are wrong, but there are troops there. There are troops from UK, USA all over the World. Just not officially known to the public. But they are there.

Call it advisory, or consultation or whatever but they are there.
