Hi,

I understand most of you guys don't give a shit but for those who do. I just thought to make this quick thread here (in Lounge). I know I'm gonna get a little trolled but that's alright. Haha. So here goes

Some misconception.

1. No, it's not all mountains, dust and camels.
2. Yes we do have Internet
3. No, everyone doesn't go blowing themselves up when they're upset
4. No one speaks English here.
5. People have a strict dress code for Male and full cover for females

What's the advantage living in Pakistan?

1. It's my home country
2. It's cheap to live ( I live in Metropolitan area, biggest City of Pakistan)
3. Internet is decent (sucks atleast one day each month)
4. If you register IT company, you're exempted from most of the taxes
5. Cheap to hire full time staff, get an office. No outsource needed. We're the outsourced. lol

Average cost of living

In a decent area,

- You can get a apartment of 1 bed, for $100 - $150
- Food is cheap. You can get by with even $1 per day (if you absolutely had to) but avg per person is $3 - $5
- Internet. Not that cheap. We got 10mbps dedicated for around $25 p/m
- A single person can have a PRETTY good standard of living under $1k.

Why I post this ?

Don't know. Had a little free time.

Cheers

Pretty interesting. And I guess thanks to the internet you have the chance to earn the same as someone in a western country and if so, with the lower costs you can live a great life right?

Precisely the reason of posting. I do people to support but I have the luxury to able to get by in mere $200 - $300, If I absolutely had to. Thanks to internet, that's not the case. :)

Another thing I forgot to mention

Avg wage for hand labor (Builders, movers, painter, etc) is around $5 - $10 per day
Avg wage for an clerical office worker is $300
Avg wage for a PHP dev here is $300 $700 (experience)

What do you do for fun?

Do you like the dress code?

Love it. What is the dress code for men?

And what is the law like - very strict? Corruption?

I personally have wore Shalwar kameez (traditional dress, it's popular in India too) like very few times. Not a fan. Other then that, normal everyday Jeans and Shirt. lol

Another thing that I forgot to mention that I really should address is

- No one. Absolutely No one I know support those maniac terrorist.
- The actions that our government takes. The people shouldn't be held responsible for it. Heck, if that's the case, US and UK population have their hands bloody but no, they didn't do what's done. Their government did so I hope people can give the same courtesy
- We don't go around people killing that aren't Muslims. It's in Pakistan that everyone have full rights of exercising their religion (or none). Yes we have some stupid people but they're not in majority
- We got malls, We got restaurants, cafe, people go our at night, have fun, go to beeches, picnic, water parks and what not. Just like normal people

Think about north Korea, Syria ... Its worst than Pakistan. Who were born there have no choice.

Exactly. Pakistan is MUCH better off then those unfortunate Countries that have become nothing but a proxy point of Super powers for their pissing competition

I know I'm gonna get a little trolled but that's alright

Why do you think that?

I personally find it fascinating reading about living standards and lifestyle in other countries, particularly countries that may not have had the greatest publicity at times.

We might consider ourselves fortunate here in the western world because of the advances in technology but boy do we pay the price for it!

Would love to visit some eastern countries one day, hopefully I will get the opportunity.

i would be interested to go there with my mountain bike ...... you know the mountains there ?

The mods were pretty quick to jump in as minutes after posting this thread, Someone posted a very impolite, reply on this thread, lol basically calling me a terrorist, So that's the rest I stated that.

I too am quite fascinated as I search daily but saw that there isn't much info about Pakistan on BHW so thought I should pitch in.
When you decide to visit, give me a holler ;)

Unfortunately, no. For better part of my life, I'm mostly consumed by work. But we do have dirt rallies here near the mountains.

No such dress code. Simple worn out jeans and shirt does it for me. Everyday.

Oh I thought you said there was a dress code in public or something. I guess that's just for women?

Nope, not necessarily. They do wear Pant shirts but I gotta be honest, that this depend on which part of the country you're living, nonetheless, Hijabs (that most Europeans/USA despise) aren't compulsory. And yes Women do drive, go out alone, study :)

this is the right place to ask.

why during weddings, your country girls start looking like too much angel type, is it the kind of make up or its just natural ?

i dont fucking get it.

basically calling me a terrorist

That's just fucked up!!

I know plenty of people from all parts of the world and mostly they are just hard working people just trying to provide for their families.

We have our share of bad press here in the uk but that doesn't mean everyone here is the same. It's just the idiotic few who hit the worldwide headlines.

When was the last time in pakistan you saw a news report because some random person did a good deed for someone? It doesn't happen, much like over here we only hear about the bad stuff that happens in other countries.

Generalising an entire nation because of a few nut jobs is ridiculous.

What's the tax rate in Pakistan? In my country (India) it sucks.. can go upto 30% on moderate income. Also, how are the non muslims treated over there (no offense meant. Just asked out of curiosity)?

You are wrong when you say people of other faiths have full and equal rights. They don't.

Even in India, we have seperate laws for things like divorce and inheritance if you're muslim or hindu and India is a secular nation.
I would think Pakistan would have more differences legally based on someone's faith as it is an islamic state.

PS. How to resolve Kashmir dispute between India & Pak:
1.) Get rid of all terrorists.
2.) Get rid of the borders.
3.) Both have access to each other's resources now and Kashmir. Both get Kashmir, so nothing left to fight over. Doesn't seem possible with the current situation, but doesn't hurt to be hopeful.
4.) Pakistan would have to compromise on a few things like the dress code and stuff.

PPS. My garndpa was schooled in Lahore..

BTW - In pakistan you have to declare "Ahamadi Muslims" non muslims to get your passport as a muslim.

lol pretty good standard of living for under 1kUSD? I'm assuming you mean per month? For fuck sake man, for 1k USD / month you can have a pretty good standard of living in most you Europe as well.
