Advanced IMers use two monitors - WHY ??!!

It increases productivity.. I am getting a sick set up in a month. Gonna have a bunch of screens.. Right now I just got the laptop and a desktop I dont use..

I have dual 24" and it's just awesome. I don't know how I could have ever lived without them before. It increases your productivity and organization by a lot.

Seriously, you can do all this stuff on 1 monitor and you wouldn't even have to move your head as much. What, you need a separate one for instant messaging? You're just showing off, pal. And you're getting spoiled, you damn kids!
But seriously, if you need more than 1 monitor, get it, but I don't see how any of you previous poasters even need an additional one.
A wise man once said "Too much information is quite likely one of the the worst things you can get". And perhaps he was right. But it there was one thing I learned is that you should keep things to worry about at the absolute minimum.

It's just a preference thing, i honestly wouldnt want a 32" or anything bigger simply because i have to stare at it for long periods of time and i bet the resoultion aint as great. Also wouldnt a big monitor cost approx. as much as two smaller ones? And its not just usefull IM and mIRC, you can have anything out of sight but there when you need it.

I have a 32 inch tv that I use for my computer and the resolution is nice and easy on the eyes, and I can watch movies from my bed, so definetly multipurpose there.

They will be a bit more expensive than standard monitors. That all depends on the brand though. Only brands I think worth mentioning that are 28+" are hannsg/dell/hp. Anything else just doesn't get enough hype. LCD tvs are also an option.

I have two widescreen 22" monitors and one vertical 19". At my distance I can view the two 22" monitors perfectly without any neck pain or discomfort. Everything is setup at eye level so I can easily adjust what I am looking at without moving my eyes up or down. It's all preference and the 19" is hooked to a kvm on other computers. I can do all of what I do on one screen while I am basically in "idle" mode. When I am working I would much prefer two smaller widescreens over one bulky screen. I was born and raised off old 800x600 crts :tee:
 
:confused::confused::confused::confused: it seems that everybody here is using a multi screen setup :eek: why don't you guys show us your work statio with pictures like Mr.Pheer did .
 
Is it possible to connect a single monitor to a laptop and have two screens (one laptop, one monitor)?
 
Squesh > Yes you can. Actually this is very usefull if you work sometimes with a netbook.

No when you open another window you drag it
accross to the other monitor. Just make sure you have your windows sized
correctly. Your laptop should give you the different options for your
video set up when you connect another monitor anyway.
 
I don't have multiple monitors, but I use a 30" 2560 x 1600 Gateway monitor that is perfect for multitasking.
