What's with all the spam?

I've noticed over the last week a huge influx of "Quickbooks support number" spammers.

What's all of that about? Is it a fake support number?

Fake support numbers, spamming here, Facebook and other places just to appear on google search results.

They're so frustrating, thankfully our Mods have lightning fast fingers.

They are probably using xRumer for the spam and have identified BHW as a forum where things index almost immediately in Google and thus we are on their radar.

Unfortunately for them, they are on our radar as well.

The end goal they have is to have someone Google "whatever support" and they hope to have their thread title show up and then they would do the tech support crap and try and sell them something they do not need.

There was some one with those herbal supplements spam few days back. I guess he is taking those supplements to digest the shock of his spam being deleted in minutes.

It makes so little sense though, because it's been such an unsuccessful campaign. Most posts are gone well within a minute, and what your describing would need the posts to remain indefinitely, no?

Only if those spammers were smart enough to think about this. BTW how many times they did it so far ?

Or pull the old "Can I just have your account password to confirm your identity, please?"

No they would not need to remain up as their target market are people who are not sophisticated when it comes to technical stuff and if they google/bing "XYZ Support" they see the thread title and just dial the number.

The way those kinds of companies operate is they are looking to hit people in an older demographic like 60 years and older as they are generally not very technical.

The thread title remains in the search engine for a little while and they probably get some calls from them and that is why they continually spam.

BHW is not their only target as you'll see their junk on other places that are not even forums.

It's a crappy way to market and they are essentially stealing from their "clients" once they get them.

Those are pay per minute calls. Costs arm and leg to answer a call like this.
They play with the roaming fees . The worst thing is that is easy to set up and more and more people are doing it for quick cash

Means if someone calls those numubers, they get paid some money ?

Yes. They get paid even when you answer as per roaming fees . Its like the sex phones years ago - charges are higher than regular phone

So money is deducted for accepting calls from any such number ? Are you sure about this ?
