Hi, it would be interesting to hear your opinion or to receive suggestions on how to increase the innovation in the company. The company is not specifically defined, it can be any organization involved in the activity. Thanks for the answers

Money, freedom and job security are good motivators. :-)

Zbigniew, thanks for your answer =) I mean innovation, not motivation =D

Replace whoever is in charge with someone better.

If replaced,
Do You think - The former in-charge work better or work or no longer work ?

I think, 80% of people - No longer Work! ;)

Yeah man, but they need to be motivated to be innovated, is my belief.

If you want specific systems to make people more innovative, then you would probably need to specify what it is about. If no specifics are put up, then I would say money, freedom and job security is what would make people innovative at work.

If these 3 are not met, then it will only be a "clock-in-clock-out" job for people, which is a killer for innovation.

Divide the team into two groups. Give them the same tasks and let both groups compete against each other. Give a reward to the winning team.

1) Read up stories about innovation and how companies innovate ideas. One needs examples to replicate. Preferably successful stories sharing how they've done it.
2) Depending on your field of business, get magazines related to it so your team can get latest ideas. (i.g: The Economist, Harvard Business Review). Even surfing the latest columns in websites sharing the latest updates in that field.
3) Network. Get them to network with other companies. Take them to those business conferences and networking sessions to grasp more ideas.
4) Have a fault tolerance environment. The reason why Google is so successful is because they allow their teams to come up with ideas and let em' try it out. Even if they fail they won't be penalised for it.
Zero-fault tolerance environment is toxic to relations among your teammates and even to the business as a whole as everyone will be in their comfort zone fearing of making mistakes.

When one or more of these are achieved, have a brainstorming session. Avoid brainstorming in the early morning or late afternoons as that's where most employees (and you) would experience energy slump. What I love doing most is downing several cups of coffee or espresso shots within one quick go, which will help you enter 'hyperactivity mode'. That's when you get excited and energised, and ideas will just keep popping up. Alternatively, sedative states work too - 2 glasses of wine, or taking drugs like marijuana (won't recommend it though).

But like other said, they need a 'reason' to get motivated to innovate too. Say, a reward system. It can be monetary rewards or non-monetary rewards (vacation days, a week off if it goes well, etc)

My cousin worked for a company that actively encouraged innovation by offering to set up a new business in partnership with an employee who they felt had a good idea for a spin off company they could invest in. It does not really get better than that, they basically acted like business angels for their own staff.

That's not the problem at hand, besides most work does not require any creativity but only faithful following of instructions. The problem at hand is "how to increase innovation at the company".

Many companies don't execute employees due to failed projects, only one company owns AdWords. So, I'd say AdWords is the key here ;)

@jazzc - do you know ANY companies that execute employees?

That sounds like it would be a deterrent to getting the best talent.

Uday hussain used to torture and execute members of the iraq soccer/olympic teams if he felt they hadnt done well. Pretty sure bezos would if he could. So lets hope the op doesnt follow his example.
