Jr. VIP and above closing their own threads

I'm not sure if there was a specific reason this disappeared, or if it had to do with the vBulletin to Xenforo move. But if it's an option in Xenforo to re-enable this feature, that would be great.

This would be especially helpful in sections such as Hire a Freelancer and Want to Buy, or the Lounge. Some of the HAF threads I've created have gotten the response I've needed fairly quickly. Reporting my own post to close the thread seems like a waste of time for mods, regardless of how little time it may take.

Additionally, I've had PLENTY of lounge threads that have gone off the rails that I wish I would have been able to close on my own before a moderator had to intervene.

Is there a reason why this feature went away? Thanks!

EDIT: And good point from @TheAlmightyDada. Giveaway and Freebie sections would be relatively self-moderatable, freeing mods and admins up to more important tasks.

That's a really sensible idea. I'd be in favour of it for sure. It would certainly help moderators out imo.

Its a nice suggestion.
For example we can close the threads that we post in the Hire a Freelancer , or Freebie section once the job / giveaway is done, and stop receiving spam from users.

Would be nice, especially if possible to later reopen threads. There have been a few HAF threads that I've made where I've hired, then gone back and bumped the thread to hire a few more people for the same job. Would be nice to be able to lock/unlock threads, at least on that forum.

Sorry - at no point has anyone other than mod's been able to close threads in the last 8 years.

Whilst it would help with thread count it creates an issue where there isn't an opportunity to reply.

Are you sure? I definitely recall closing some of my own threads back in 2015 or so.

I am pretty sure it was a Jr. VIP feature, even if only for a few sections of the board:

Jr Vip and above are not moderators and should not have the ability/authority to moderate the forum.

Not to take away from the 99% majority of the JR Vips but 97.00 and 100 posts should not give them the authority to moderate.

The staff has no problem responding to requests to close threads and are happy to help out. In fact the one you requested to be closed today was closed inside of 5 minutes of your request this AM and maybe inside of 60 seconds.

To address whether the platform has the ability to add that in... anything can be coded. I've been telling that to my partners who are programmers for years but not everything should be coded.

@Apricot caught a bug where Execs had the ability to close threads and had that cleaned up fairly recently.

With the addition of the MiTs (who are doing a spectacular job) I don't see that as something that should be implemented.
