I'm a beginner in SEO learning so I apologize if my question sounds stupid. How do you determine if a link is follow or no-follow? For now, as of my understandings after reading one book and a few threads on forum, blog commenting are follow links and social media posts on Facebook are no follow links.

Do foolow links allow google (all search engines) to follow them and reach our website. Giving us linkjuice and a backlink. If a webmaster is linking back to you with this link both Search Engine and Humans will be able to follow you. The best way to give someone Do follow love is allowing keyword in the anchor text.

Well, most links by default are do follow links due to the default code format of the respective link.
Only when you specifically specify that the link to be no follow by embeding rel=no follow as part of the code format, then that link would be no follow.
You can in fact install a firefox tool that shows both do follow and no follow links - the no follow links would be properly highlighted in light red, which shows you the link format for that page on a specific site.
But by modern day SEO standards, you should have both type of links linking to your site to make it look like a natural link profile for your site.

Do-follow link is nothing but the link juice performed in the SEO. Link juice is the technique using which you used to pass the link from one website to another. Using it, you come to know that how powerful the linking between the one site to another or in-between is. The hyperlinks are used for it.
The important factor while ranking your website by the search engine is that how many quality links you have added. It is not like that if there are more number of links then search engine will rank your website on top, it depends on which type of links you have added.
The more authority a page has, the more link juice it will pass.
No-Follow link -
It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.
Recently Google has said that they will still count the nofollow link as an outgoing link in terms of the distribution of page rank from your page. Though again it also depends on where that nofollow link is placed. Placing a nofollow link at the bottom of the page has the least impact, and when placed at the top of the page, it carries some impact.
The necessity of the nofollow tag highlights the crooked and spammy mentality commonly associated with SEO.

Blog comments are also often nofollow. It's not a rule, depends on the site and platform. You can see from page source (inspect element) if your backlink has rel="nofollow" inside the <a...></a> tag. Also with SEO tools like Ahrefs you can see which of your site's backlinks are do-follow and which are no-follow. Do-follow pass link juice, but you need nofollows, too to build a natural looking backlink profile. Have 20-50% of your links nofollow, depending on the link amount and type of backlinks.

Right click on the link and select Inspect Element. Now you will see a window open up. Check if the link looks like this:

An easier way is to have No Follow Sep Highlighter Chrome Extension installed on your Chrome browser. If there are any no follow links in a page, they will be highlighted.
