I remember my college days when I gave some money to my room mate and have not heard back about it after even 7 years. Would you lend a friend money? If you already did in past, how was the experience ?
Do you include parents and siblings in this as well. Sounds harsh to me personally.Never lend friends or family money unless it's life or death. Take it from me, it can ruin your relationships.
Did you remind him ? $1200 is a lot , mine was less than $50 in total so I never reminded. This reminded me of an incident with a friend many years back.
He said he need $100 for some emergency and he would return the money in a week.
I was wary, but decided to lend him anyway.
True enough he kept his word and returned the money by the 3rd day.
4 months later he had another ‘emergency’ with his car and needed $1200. Without hesitation I lent him the money.
Never heard from him till this very day. That was 11 years ago.

Isn't he on Facebook ? And what about tracing him with the help of common friends. He ghosted me. Changed his address and phone number.
I just took it as an expensive lesson on the dangers of Ben Franklin effect![]()

And why not lodge a police case, they'd sniff him down.
